1 st Amendment. Freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, and Petition RELIGION SPEECH PETITION ASSEMBLY PRESS

2 nd Amendment. BEARING ARMS. A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

3 rd Amendment. Quartering of Troops. No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor, in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

4 th Amendment. Searches and Seizures. Police officers have no general right to search for or seize evidence or (seize) arrest persons without a warrant present.

5 th Amendment. Criminal Proceedings. Due Process. Eminent Domain. Must be charged or indicted by a grand jury to be tried for a crime. Can’t be charged for same crime twice. Right to remain silent. No rights may be denied without due process of law. Government may take private public property for legitimate public purpose but only for fair compensation.

6 th Amendment. Criminal Proceedings. Right to a speedy trial with an impartial informed jury. Can cross-examine hostile witnesses. Right to require testimony of favorable witnesses. Right to an attorney.

7 th Amendment. Civil Trials. Right to a civil trial in Federal Court if value in controversy exceeds $20.

8 th Amendment. Punishment for Crimes. Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishment inflicted.

9 th Amendment. Unenumerated Rights. The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

10 th Amendment. Powers Reserved to The States. The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

11 th Amendment. Suits Against States. A State cannot be sued in a Federal court by another country or by one of its own residents.

13 th Amendment, 14 th Amendment, 15 th Amendment 13 th - Abolished slavery and involuntary servitude. 14 th - All persons born or naturalized in the United States are citizens. 15 th - Right to Vote- Race, Color, Servitude

17 th Amendment. Popular Election of Senators.

18 th Amendment. Prohibition of Intoxicating Liquors.

19 th Amendment. Equal Suffrage-Sex. Women get the right to VOTE.

20 th Amendment. Commencement of Terms; Sessions of Congress; Death or Disqualification of President-elect. It lays down the rules for the beginnings and endings of elected officials' terms. -Presidents and Vice Presidents are to be sworn in on Jan. 20 at Noon following an election. -Senators and Representatives are to be sworn in on Jan. 3 following an election. -Congress must meet at least once a year, starting on Jan. 3. -If the president elected dies or is unable to serve in office before being sword in, the V.P. will become president. -If a president or V.P. elect does not qualify, the current V.P. is to be president until a qualified candidate is found. -Congress may declare a president elect or V.P. elect unqualified.

23 rd Amendment. Presidential Electors for the District of Columbia. D.C. gets 3 electoral votes.

25 th Amendment. Presidential succession, Vice Presidential Vacancy, Presidential Inability.

24 th Amendment. Right to Vote in Federal Elections without taxation.

26 th Amendment. Right to Vote Age.

27 th Amendment. Cogressional Pay. No law varying the compensation for the services of the senators and representatives, shall take effect, until an election of representatives shall have intervened.
