Always remove your keys, even if your car is parked in a safe place. Vehicles with the keys in them are easy prey for car thieves.

Always roll up the windows and lock the car.

Never leave valuables in plain view, even if your car is locked. Put them in the trunk or at least out of sight.

Park your car in a well-lit area.

Report anything suspicious to CBC Security and Safety or the police.

Self-Protection Share your class schedule with parents and a network of close friends, effectively creating a type of “buddy” system.

At night, walk with someone; remember there is safety in numbers.

Have your key(s) ready to open your car doors, especially at night. Your keys can be a defensive weapon.

If you think you are being followed, change your direction (cross the street)

Keep looking back so the person knows you can’t be surprised…

Go to a well-lighted area such as a classroom, office, library, or anywhere there are people.

Observe as much as possible about who is following you so you can give a good description if necessary.

CBC Standards of Civility & Safety Show respect for faculty, staff and your fellow students. Loud, obscene, or profane language is usually inappropriate and should not intrude upon other’s rights to a welcoming and civil environment. Show respect for the College’s property and physical environment. Furniture, equipment, and physical spaces are to be used as they were intended and should not be subject to damage or misuse. Comply with CBC’s rules, regulations, guidelines and the directives of College personnel acting in the legitimate performance of their responsibilities. Show respect for the comfort of others in an educational setting by observing acceptable standards for personal cleanliness and dress.

In case of an emergency, students and college staff should call 911 immediately. CBC Security & Safety will be automatically notified.

Contact CBC Security & Safety if you… Are a victim or have information about a crime that has occurred on campus. Have been involved in or have witnessed an auto accident on campus. Have been injured and/or need first aid.

Remember… Promptly reporting incidents or suspicious activity will assure appropriate and timely responses.
