Geometric Terms By Marilyn and Alyssa:)
2
Angles Right Angle: An angle that is 90 degrees Acute Angle: An angle less than 90 degrees Obtuse Angle: An angle more than 90 degrees
3
Triangles Icosoles-An isosceles triangle is a triangle with (at least) two equal sidestriangle Scalene-No equal sides, No equal angles Equilateral- Three equal sides,Three equal angles, always 60° Obtuse- A triangle with one obtuse angle Right- A triangle with one right angle Acute- A triangle where all three internal angles are acute (less than 90 degrees).triangleacute
4
Lines Intersecting: Two lines that cross each other Perpendicular: Two lines that come together to form a 90 degree angle Parallel: Two lines that will never intersect
5
Congruent If one shape can stay the same when you turn, flip or slide it.
6
Adjacent Adjacent means that two lines or angles are next to each other.
7
Vertical Angles A pair of non-adjacent angles formed by the intersection of two straight linesadjacent anglesintersection
8
Supplementary Angles Supplementary means when two or more angles add up to make 180 degrees
9
Complementary Angles Two Angles are Complementary if they add up to 90 degrees (a Right Angle).
10
Quadrilaterals Square: has 4 sides, and 4 right angles that are congruent Trapezoid: has 1 set of parallel sides Parallelogram: has 2 pairs of opposite sides that are parallel Rhombus: has 4 congruent sides Rectangle:has 2 pairs of congruent sides and 4 congruent angles
11
Parts Of A Circle Radius- The radius of the circle is a straight line drawn from the center to the boundary line or the circumference. Diameter- The diameter is the line crossing the circle and passing through the center. It is the twice of the length of the radius. Circumfernce- The circumference of a circle is the boundary line or the perimeter of the circle.
12
Perimeter and Circumfrence Perimeter: The distance around a shape. You get it by adding up the lengths of each side of the shape. Circumfrence: The distance around a circle. You get it by multiplying the diameter of a circle by pi.
13
Area Of Various Shapes Triangles- Length* Width Rhombus- Base*Height Square- Base*Height or Side *Side Rectangle- Base*Height Parallelograms- Base*Height Circle- 3.14*Radius squared
