3 Introduction MOHSW worked with MAISHA ( supported by USAID)to implemented facility and community MNCH in Morogoro The program in collaboration with Dtree used of a phone based tool assist health workers in delivering high quality care to clients at facility and community level

4 Advantage Strengthen facility/community linkage Serve as a job aid for service providers Store individual clients records for individualized care To consolidate monthly records and improve reporting. Phone coverage 5 heath facilities ( 28 providers trained) 6 villages ( 12 Community health workers trained )

5 Scope of the Project To have Facility and Community based tools that focused on: Identification of risk factors and screening for complications Ensure examination and lab tests are done Individual birth planning, nutrition and family planning Encouragement of facility delivery The electronic referral to the facility from community. Synchronization of information from CHW onto the facility-based applications

11 Testimonies Health Worker: “before I used the phone, I would forget to ask the client for information. The application doesn’t allow me to skip and jump questions at all. It is a good guide and helps me organize myself “ CHW: “if I am going to the market for example and I get a phone call I can just go straight to that mother’s house rather than having to go home and getting my documents. It’s so convenient!” Mother: “When I went back to the clinic for the second time, I was so surprised to see that my nurse was able to go back to the information that I had given her previously.”.

12 Testimonies cont A CHW while doing a home visit using the mobile application discovered that the client had decreased foetal movement, that was noted by CHW as a danger sign, CHW immediately referred her to HC where they diagnosed her with foetal distress and referred to hospital where she had a c-section with a good outcome. She told us that without the project she would have lost her baby

13 Recommendation and conclusion Conclusion Electronic protocols has been shown to improve adherence to the protocols and the accuracy of diagnosis/treatment and referral Recommendation To ensure high-quality service delivery by health workers at all levels we must develop evidence- based, clinically proven innovations like Mhealth. MOHSW and Implementing Partners to scale up such innovations
