Early Life Born June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama Strange disease at 19 months old Sickness left her blind and deaf forever Used to getting her way Often threw tantrums when she felt frustrated

Family Uncle thought she was mentally defective because of tantrums Mother & aunt noticed how sweet and loving she was when not in a tantrum Lived with parents: Arthur H. Keller, Kate Adams Keller; Little sister Mildred

Education o Age 6- Parents brought her to Alexander Graham Bell o 7 yrs old- Anne Sullivan began trying to teach her to communicate o Anne taught Helen what the word “water” meant o 6 months- Anne had taught her 625 words o Age 10- Speak, typewriter, manual alphabet, Braille

Schools 11 yrs old- attended Perkins School Raised $ for 5 yr old Tommy Stringer to come to school 1894-1896- studied at Wright Humanson-School 1898- enrolled in Cambridge School for Young Ladies Fall of 1900- Radcliffe College 1904- Received bachelor’s degree & graduated

Helen Keller: The Writer 1891- Falsely accused of plagiarism after writing "The Frost King” 1902- Wrote articles for the Ladies’ Home Journal that was published as The Story of My Life 1929- Wrote My Life With Midstream: My Later Life 1957- The Miracle Worker was broadcasted on live television
