BACKGROUND 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA Thirty percent of Tanzanian children enrolled in school fail to complete seven years of primary education. The drop-out is due to higher rate of pregnancy in most of the village area schools such as the southern region of Mtwara where at least 400 school-girls became pregnant in 2006. Early pregnancies have forced over 70 per cent of girls out of secondary schools in Newala district, Mtwara region in 2013. Early marriages and school girl pregnancies are among issues that deter the Tanzania policy for universal education and poverty reduction.
