What is design phase? The design phase is the second phase in multimedia production. The design phase refers to the planning of the design of the multimedia program to be developed.

The course content, navigational structure, assets, approach and graphic design are developed in detail. There are two popular tools used in the design phase: Flow chart Storyboard

Screen design refers to how the multimedia program will look when it is displayed on the computer screen.

The principle of contrast states that, if two items are not exactly alike then it makes them different. Contrast provides interest within a piece of graphic and keep observer entertained. For example: text colour should contrast against with the background colour.

Refers to the arrangement of multimedia program elements on the screen. Example: graphic or text should be arranged at the most suitable position.

Refers to the simple and easy way of presenting the multimedia program. Use accurate words for text and graphics as it is absolutely necessary to get your point cross. Example: Using a simple design with less graphics, animation and text makes the multimedia program more attractive and easy to understand.

Refers to the concept of grouping a similar or related element. Example: The arrangement of “Main Menu” and graphics must be in one group.

Refers to the creating the focus on the screen. It will highlight the important part of the screen to attract the user’s attention. Techniques of emphasis object on a page Isolation -Elements in a work of art are grouped closely together, an object by itself stands out as a focal point. Text attributes -use highlight or bold face. Example: One topic for one slide.

Refers to the concept of repeating the same texture, colour, size of font and style in the multimedia program. Repetition adds a visual interest into the multimedia program.

Flowcharts can be used to describe how pages of the site or application relate to one another. Flow charts help multimedia developers to lay out the flow of a multimedia program

A design storyboard is an outline of what your web site will include before it is actually created. The storyboard needs to include the tittle, navigation button, content and graphics. Usually, the multimedia developers write a storyboard for the program based on the flow chart. Next multimedia developers produce the storyboard in detail.

Design phase is the phase that create exactly what the program that will develop. Two popular tools that usually use in design phase are flowchart and storyboard. CASPER is refer to screen design principle. It is use to make sure all the message can be conveyed clearly to the audience or user.
