B UDGETS Although, most cases the amount of revenue received greatly outweighs the cost of preparing, there have been some cases that have put some countries in debt. In 1992, Barcelona was in debt $6.1 Billion 2004, Athens budget was $1.6 Billion, actual cost $16 Billon 1976, Montreal was in debt $2.7 Billion Currently, Britain is expected to go over budget

I S THE RISK WORTH IT ? When you host the Olympics, you run into the risk of having to dip into tax payers money, going into severe debt and not being able to host again. So is it worth it? Usually, the rights to air it on television already exceeds the price it took to prepare for it. Not to mention all of advertising for your city, the tourist, the jobs you create before, during and after the games, plus if all goes well the chance to host another game.

E STIMATED C OST FOR THE L ONDON O LYMPICS The opening and closing ceremonies are estimated to cost $125 million. The sporting Jamboree will cost $81 million, including $41 million of tax payers money. Each of the 4 ceremonies will cost $112,500 per minute. Security has nearly doubled since February, and the total is now at $1.03 billion. Not including the $253 million for security for the construction of the Olympic venue.

A N EVENT WATCHED AROUND THE WORLD There will always be a debate if hosting the Olympic games are worth all the time and money. Statistically, hosting the games cost more than the revenue received, but the honor of hosting the games tends to outweigh the bad.
