3. Who are the International Students International students are: Foreign nationals who hold a valid Study Permit issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. An international student does not: Hold permanent residency status in Canada Hold Canadian citizenship Hold refugee or protected persons status

5. Challenges? What are some of the challenges that an International Student would face? Accommodations? Finances? Family? Immigration? Culture Shock? Travel? Academics?

6. You can: Listen and provide support Refer/contact necessary people Be understanding and empathetic Be a friend You shouldn’t: Give out wrong information Give out advice pertaining to immigration or work permits Turn students away How can you help?

7. What can you do? Introduce yourselves – let International Students know who you are and that you’re there to help Programs and activities – provide platforms for students to meet and mingle, and make sure International Students know that it’s for everyone Partnerships with departments – work with other departments, like the International Department, to facilitate and host events
