2 DAY 01 – Origin Country/MADRID Arrival at Madrid Airport. Transfer from Airport to a Hotel in Madrid. Accommodation at a 4*Hotel. DAY 02 – MADRID Enjoy a full day with us discovering the magic of Madrid as well as the historical charm of the medieval city of Toledo. These famous cities are a must see while you are visiting Spain and with us you will get well-rounded introductions to the city’s sights and hidden gems. Starting with Madrid’s famous avenues, including the Gran Via and Castellana, to famous squares such as Plazas de Espana, Puerta del Sol and Puerta de Alcala. We will also visit Madrid’s historic quarters and famous parks, including Casa de Campo and Retiro, and of course a panorama visit to the main attractions including The Royal Palace and Prado Museum. In the afternoon we will visit Toledo. Our visit will include the famous Cathedral, Church of St Tome, with its famous masterpiece by El Greco; the Synagogue of Santa Mari­a la Blanca; the Museum of Victorio Macho; the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes. Accommodation at a 4* Hotel. DAY 03 – MADRID/ESCORIAL/AVILA/SALAMANCA Breakfast at hotel. Departure towards Escorial - Spend the morning at El Escorial monastery and the Valley of the Fallen monument, erected in memory of the millions who died in the Spanish Civil War. In the afternoon visit of Avila. Avila is a World Heritage city and the birthplace of St. Teresa de Jesus. This city is entirely encircled by walls which englobes the main part of their valuable monuments. We will visit the Cathedral (exterior), the Basilica of St. Vincent and the Convent of St. Teresa. Continue towards Salamanca, a renowned universally city know for its rich artistic patrimony, cathedrals, palaces, churches and squares. Accommodation at Hotel Catalonia Plaza Mayor 4*. DAY 4 – SALAMANCA/SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA In the morning, we will make a tour over Salamanca, visiting the Plaza Mayor, the Shells House, the new and old Cathedral and the University of Salamanca. 3 DAY 5 – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA/BRAGA/PORTO Depart after breakfast. First we will visit Santiago de Compostela and the most important temple for all pilgrims - the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Located in the beautiful plaza de Obradoiro, you will first see the facade de la Gloria, the main entrance at the church. Declared a World Heritage Site, the Cathedral houses the silver coffer with the remains of Saint James. We will continue crossing the board to Portugal until Braga. known as the “Portuguese Rome”, for its concentration of religious architecture, as the oldest Cathedral of the country. Founded in Roman times, with the name of Bracara Augusta, this city has over 2000 years of history. We will visit The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sameiro and Bom Jesus. We will continue towards Porto. Entering this city a brief panoramic will follow, ending at the Hotel. Accommodation at at a 4* Hotel. DAY 6 – PORTO/DOURO VALLEY/COIMBRA Morning visit of Porto, the second most important Portuguese city. Walking promenade through the narrow streets that led to Douro river. Visit to the Stock Exchange Palace and Saint Francis Church. Continue to Ribeira, declared World Heritage in 1999. Embark the coach and cross the D. Luis iron Bridge to Gaia. Visit a wine cellar including a Port wine tasting. Afterwards we will leave the city of Porto and depart towards the Douro Valley - an amazing wine region known for the production of Wine for almost 2000 years. Our journey along the most scenic road of Portugal will take us to ‘Quinta da Pacheca’, a Wine Estate where you will enjoy a fantastic traditional lunch enjoying the fantastic views of the Douro Valley. After lunch you can have a guided tour of its old wine cellar and the rest of the estate. During the afternoon we will leave the Douro Valley behind, travelling across the rolling hills of central Portugal towards Coimbra. Accommodation at at a 4* Hotel. DAY 7 – COIMBRA/FÁTIMA/ÓBIDOS/LISBON Today begins with the visit of Coimbra, a bustling city that combines both the traces of its historic past with the youthfulness of a vibrant student community. Visit of one of the oldest university towns in Europe. After that we will follow to Fátima, visiting the sanctuary. We will follow to Nazaré (stop for pictures) and Óbidos, a medieval village that we will also visit. We will continue until Lisbon. Accommodation at at a 4* Hotel. We will have the option to visit St. George Castle, including its surrounding quarter and Alfama, Lisbon's oldest quarter. We will then follow the one of the most emblematic quarters of Lisbon: Belém. Panoramic tour over the most important monuments ending in the front of Jerónimos Monastery. The morning will end tasting one of the most traditional pastries of Lisbon: the “pastel de Nata”. In the afternoon we will drive you straight to Sintra where hundreds of years of history and culture await you. Doing a short walk in the old city centre you'll find yourself surrounded by the old houses now converted into small quaint handicraft shops and traditional pastry shops. Visit of the village center with option of visiting the Vila Palace. The return to Lisbon will follow a very special road named "Marginal" by the Portuguese running always parallel to the white sandy beaches, passing through Cascais and Estoril with its famous casino (stop for photos). Accommodation at at a 4* Hotel. DAY 9 – LISBON/ÉVORA/LISBON After leaving Lisbon, we will drive to Évora by the countryside roads of Alentejo, for a beautiful sightseeing tour by car. In Évora, we will have enough time to walk in its historical centre and "feel" the atmosphere of this town. After reaching the walled city our guide will invite you to visit the enigmatic church of St. Francis and its Chapel of the Bones. The tour will continue up the narrow streets of the old town reaching the Giraldo square where the Inquisition once had its headquarters. You will also have time to explore the millennium old Roman Temple and have a glimpse at the 12th century cathedral. In the already distant 16th century Évora thrived with culture and tradition in its university as much as it still does today. During a short visit to the century old university courtyard you will understand why was Évora once the second most important city of Portugal. After such an intensive cultural morning it will be time to enjoy the pleasures of one of the most creative cuisines of Portugal in some of the local "alentejano" restaurants that our guide will help you to choose. After a relaxing lunch we will return to Lisbon, passing through a belvedere from where you have the most fantastic views over the capital and its surroundings – the Cristo Rei belvedere.
