3 GRADES, TRANSCRIPTS, CREDITS Every grade counts towards cumulative GPA Math, Science, English, Social Studies, and Foreign Language for academic GPA Every grade goes on their transcript and is not removed! Each class counts as a ½ unit – need 26 units to graduate Four in Math Four in English Four in Science Three in Social Studies Three in CTAE/Fine Arts One in PE/Health Seven from additional courses

4 PROMOTION & ELIGIBILITY To become a junior, students must have 12 total units with 1.5 units of English and 1.5 units of Math Must have 10 total units and have passed 5 courses during the previous semester

5 HOPE SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY Students must graduate from high school with a 3.0 GPA as calculated by GSFC Meet U.S. citizenship or eligible non-citizen requirements Be a legal resident of Georgia Be registered with Selective Service, if required Maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by the college Not be in default or owe a refund due on a student financial aid program Be in compliance with the Georgia Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act of 1990 Must maintain 3.0 GPA in college May regain HOPE one time Pays approximately 80% of tuition only Pays $1910 per semester at private institutions if full time

6 ZELL MILLER SCHOLAR PROGRAM Must graduate with an academic grade point average of at least 3.7 as calculated by GSFC Must receive a score of at least 1200 combined critical reading score and math score on a single administration of the SAT or an ACT score of at least 26 Last test date must be before graduation Must maintain a 3.3 GPA in college & can regain one time Pays 100% of tuition at public institutions $2110 at private institutions per semester if full time

9 HOPE SCHOLARSHIP GPA includes all academic classes Grades will be stripped of weights by GSFC 3 points for Honors classes 5 points for AP classes Example: Class WtdGrade 4.0 scale Strip Weight New Grade Grade for GSFC Honors Eng 9 92 4.0 -389 3.0 AP Eng 11 92 4.0 -587 3.5

10 HOPE GRANT ELIGIBILITY – TECHNICAL COLLEGES Georgia's HOPE Grant is available to Georgia residents who are working towards a certificate or diploma in GA Technical Colleges Full-time enrollment is not required and students are not required to graduate from high school with a specific GPA, however, they are required to have a postsecondary cumulative 2.0 GPA, at certain checkpoints, in order to maintain eligibility Additional grants in amounts up to $500 in critical need areas: Commercial truck driving, practical nursing, welding, and others Zell Miller Grant – 3.5 at the end of semester – pays for 100% of tuition. Refund to you - retroactively

16 ACCEL CLASSES/JACKET JUMP START Eligible students are admitted to GNTC Take classes through GNTC earning high school and college credit – see your handout! Does NOT count toward HOPE hours or college GPA College classes are academic attempts - GPA Taught at CHS: ENGL 1101 & 1102 MATH 1111 & 1113 POLS 1101 Many online classes

17 HOW DO STUDENTS QUALIFY FOR COLLEGE CLASSES & WHAT ARE THE STEPS? AP, ACCEL, or both? Have to meet entrance requirements for GA Northwestern Technical College ASSET Test, ACT or SAT test scores Application and face to face meeting with parent(s) first week in August Schedule for next school year

18 AP – ADVANCED PLACEMENT CLASSES How many do we offer at CHS? What do colleges want to see? Where is your student planning to go to college? Scores – who accepts what? College Board sets AP test fees each year

20 COMMUNITY SERVICE Keep records of your community service Documentation forms are located in the Main Office Turn in to Mrs. Padgett in the Main Office

21 SECOND SEMESTER DATES OF IMPORTANCE April 30 – May 13 EOCT testing windows May 4 th – May 15 th – AP exams May 19 th – Honors Day May 29 th – Last day of school
