4 Scenario #1 Tom is a junior. He got a “D-” in English 1, first semester 9 th grade year, and an “F” second semester. His sophomore year, he did better and received a “C” both semesters. Now a junior, he is currently getting an “A”. Is Tom on track to graduate? Scenario #2 Giselle is a senior. She transferred to Hillcrest from King High School in Riverside Unified. Her previous district did not require Health to graduate. Now a senior, she has never taken Health. Is Giselle on track to graduate? Scenario #3 Brady is a senior. He’s passed every class from 9 th grade to 11 th grade and has earned 180 credits. He has a job now where he has to be at work by noon. He only has 4 periods so he can make it to his job. Is Brady on track to graduate?

14 Benefits of good time management skills Get the most out of your education. Prepare for the demands in your life. Decrease stress and anxiety. Prioritize the things you have to do. Helps you achieve a more balanced life. Makes you more productive and successful.

15 Warning signs of time management problems Turning in late work. Turning in incomplete work. Making excuses for missing work. You tend to procrastinate or wait until the night before to study for your test. Forgetting commitments. Having low grades or failing classes. Not being able to participate in games or activities due to low grades.

16 Some ideas for effective time management Use your planner daily. Document when tests and projects are due. Add in your other activities, practice times, games, church dates, social events, family commitments, etc. Make To-Do lists and check off when they are completed. Prioritize your commitments. Prepare long term- save money for senior activities, graduation, car, college, etc.

17 Junior Action Plan August - September Know your grades – check your Aeries Student Portal. Stay focused on academic excellence! Create a “professional” email address. Attend the Riverside College and Career Fair on September 30 at the Tyler Mall. Prepare for the PSAT. Attend Trojan University- September 23 Get actively involved in extra-curricular activities, sports or clubs. Visit BigFuture.org and choose “Make a Plan”. Start your Career and College Search using your Career Cruising account. Join REMIND to get Mrs. Prescott’s important reminders. Send a text to 81010 with the message @1a356

18 Junior Action Plan October - December Know your grades – check your Aeries Student Portal. Stay focused on academic excellence! Take the PSAT on October 28 th. Prepare and study for the SAT at collegeboard.org and reviewing PSAT results. Use the access code on your PSAT report to sign in to My College QuickStart at CollegeBoard.org. With this personalized planning kit, you can prepare for the SAT using a study plan based on your PSAT results and explore lists of suggested colleges, majors and careers.

19 Junior Action Plan January - March Know your grades and graduation requirements – check your Aeries Student Portal. Prepare for Senior Year registration. Attend the PSAT night in January. Research majors and careers by accessing your Career Cruising accounts. Register for senior year classes. Sign up for an SAT prep class at www.beSATwise.com or any other program. Take the ASVAB if you’re interested in the Military.

20 Junior Action Plan April – June (summer) Know your grades – check your Aeries Student Portal. Make sure you are ready for graduation in 2017! Take the school wide SAT in April. Do well on AP Exams to receive potential college credit. Plan summer activities- community service, internships, college courses. Research majors, colleges and vocational programs. Start applying for scholarships by visiting FREE websites such as fastweb.com and scholarships.com. Register for summer school if needed. Start applying for the UC system August 1 st.
