Proposal for AFCEA Support to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum Udvar Hazy Center “Become A Pilot” Family Day Saturday, June 15, 2012 March 2013

Saturday June 15, 2012, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm - “Become a Pilot”, an exploration of careers in the sciences and technologies of aviation Past attendance 11,000 to 20,000 - normal Saturday attendance 5,000 to 6,000 Outside 50 – 70 aircraft, private and military, fly in Hot air balloons, gliders, ultra-lights and other aircraft trucked in Solar Impulse expected to arrive for the day Inside Panels of military aviators and aviation historians Hands on demonstrations and exhibits – NASA, FAA, Smithsonian resources, robotics teams, Tuskegee Airmen General – pilots, caregivers and wounded veterans from Walter Reed and Bethesda, active duty military, government employees 2 Overview of Family Day at the Udvar Hazy Center

Reception and early morning entry for chapter VIP lists and chapter officers Allows AFCEA and the chapters to underscore their support for STEM activities to key supporters and their families by inviting past speakers, representatives of corporate sponsors, government supporters, chapter officers Continental breakfast Free parking for the full day Watch the fly-in and set up starting at 7:00 am Early opportunities for the balloon ride Private docent tours Each chapter can recognize STEM scholarship awardees with Air & Space Museum Director, Gen Jack Dailey, USMC (Ret) participating Extensive advertising featuring the major sponsors Potential for additional AFCEA activities with the Smithsonian for members, corporations, scholarship recipients, robotics teams, and mentored schools 3 Benefits

AFCEA advertising underscores support to STEM education and links International and the chapters to a highly respected institution Each chapter should email an invitation to the general event to all corporate and individual members Request member companies circulate the event internally Outreach to local schools (one chapter bused in children from its adopted school) Outreach to military and government facilities to include on calendars Smithsonian advertising includes prominent and top billing for major sponsors Broadcasts on WTOP Ads in Washington Post weekend section Smithsonian website and Air & Space Museum events email notice list Mailing to 30,000+ households in zip codes surrounding the Hazy Center Announcement at Air and Space Museum board and donor events Outreach to area school systems 4 Advertising

Cost of sponsorship The full cost of sponsorship is $50,000 AFCEA International has covered $5,000 $30,000 has been covered from a corporate donor to complement chapter donations $15,000 in contributions are needed from the five DC area chapters to do the full sponsorship Recognition “The Washington Area AFCEA Family” would be the primary sponsor with the listing to include the participating chapters, AFCEA International, and the AFCEA Educational Foundation The corporate donor will be recognized 5 Financial Proposal for 2012 Become a Pilot Family Day

Government outreach AFCEA International, on behalf of all the chapters, will send invitations to senior government – SES and Flag Officers to avoid multiple chapter invitations Participating chapters will invite their government speakers and supporters under the above levels Corporate outreach Chapters will offer corporate sponsors the opportunity to send a representative and family If a company holds tables at multiple chapters they may send one representative for each Chapter outreach Chapters will invite their officers, boards, advisory committee member and strategic supporters to the reception Educational outreach Stem Scholarship winners from International and the Chapters, Science Teaching Tools awardees, Adopted Schools, and other grantees should be included, along with students where possible A ceremony will be held at the reception to recognize all awardees and to underscore AFCEA STEM activities 6 Targeted Attendees for VIP Reception
