King’s Dominion Fundraising! We worked at various food and beverage places at King’s Dominion to raise money for those on our Guatemala 2014 team!

Yankee Candle Fundraising If you have not gotten a form yet, contact Gwen Edwards at edwardsgb@vcu.eduedwardsgb@vcu.edu NEW THIS YEAR: create an account online to sell to those far away from home! Their items will be shipped directly to them! If ordering with an order form remember to add 5.3% sales tax 40% of sales goes to our group! Online sale runs until 10/21, have order forms turned in to Gwen by 10/18 Whoever sells the most will win a prize!

Next Bake Sale: Monday October 14th Midterms for many at the School of Nursing! What better way to de-stress than some homemade treats? Please bring items by the School of Nursing any time that Monday. The bake sale table will be set up by 9:00am in front of Younger auditorium. All items are $1, so keep that in mind when packaging them. Our last bake sale we made ~$80! Let’s make it fun and have it fall themed (pumpkin things, for instance)

Baker’s Crust? Sigma Sigma Sigma is looking at partnering with NSWB again for a fundraising night at the Baker’s Crust in Carytown The date will probably be a weekday in late November Stay tuned!

October 31 st Blood Drive NSWB will be sponsoring the October 31 st Blood Drive at the Larrick Student Center from 10am- 7pm We need ~2 people per shift to help recruit people to donate and help the blood drive works ensure everyone stays hydrated with plenty of energy A doodle sign-up will be posted on facebook 2 weeks before the event

IHPA Kroger Outreach and Call for Articles The Inter Health Professional Alliance is an organization on the MCV campus that works towards inter-disciplinary cooperation in serving communities Once a month they do a Kroger Outreach event where they do Blood Pressure Screenings. The next event is Saturday October 26 th from 12-4pm. You can email IHPA for details on how to sign-up. They also have members write articles on various health topics at a 5 th grade reading level to hand out to community members If you are interested in more information, please email ihpa.vcu@gmail.com ihpa.vcu@gmail.com

Fan Free Clinic Food Drive Please donate the following items to the School of Nursing Food Drive Box in the Lobby until October 22 nd (items in bold are high need): Canned Tuna or Chicken Peanut Butter (plastic jars) Canned vegetables Plain spaghetti sauce Spaghetti/Macaroni (whole wheat) Canned spaghetti and meatballs and/or Beef Ravioli Beef and/or Brunswick stew Canned soups (low salt) Canned beans Canned fruits Cereal (oatmeal, others) NO GLASS JARS and NO items over 16oz Any boxed or plastic-contained non=perishable food items are appreciated Brown paper bags with handles are also appreciated

Spring MCV Annual Health Fair The MCV Campus Annual Health Fair is rolling around again and its time to start planning! If you would like to help organize the Health Fair this year, please let our community chair know, or feel free to email healthfairvcu@gmail.co m for more details! healthfairvcu@gmail.co m NSWB has had our own table every year where we pick a health topic to promote! So start thinking of ideas now!

Mentoring Pre-nursing Students If you are interested in mentoring pre-nursing students, or being mentored, please contact the pre- nursing liaison Asia Owens at owensa@vcu.edu owensa@vcu.edu

Elections! Please consider running for a position as an NSWB officer, most of the current officers will be graduating in May and can help transition you Positions include: President-responsible for planning meetings, annual finance training, primary contact for myorgs, and networking with faculty partners to represent the organization professionally Vice President-responsible for planning meetings and assisting with day-to- day operations Treasurer-responsible for annual finance training and dues collection Secretary-responsible for emailing minutes and updating member logs Community Chair-responsible for keeping up with local partners and keeping track of members community hours in myorgs Travel Chair-responsible for planning for trips with HSP and recruiting interest Fundraising Chair-responsible for organizing fundraising events to raise money for the organization Pre-nursing Liaison- responsible for reaching out the pre-nursing students and mentoring them, often times on the Monroe Park Campus

How to nominate yourself or others You may nominate yourself or someone may nominate you People will be nominated at this meeting, and we will leave nominations open until midnight October 14 th Please email me nominations at viggianidn@vcu.edu and include a picture and a paragraph detailing why you would be best suited for the position you are running for. Email this description by midnight Oct 14 th. viggianidn@vcu.edu Pre-nursing students are eligible for the secretary position! You must be an active member and current on dues in order to be elected!

The Voting Process The election will take place beginning Tuesday October 15 th through myorgs You must be on NSWB’s roster on myorgs in order to vote The winners will be announced prior to the November meeting, and they will be inducted at that meeting If you have questions email viggianidn@vcu.edu

Next meeting? The 1 st or 2 nd week of November We will have a doodle poll posted on facebook later this week so voting can begin regarding when to have our next general body meeting This will most likely be our last meeting of this semester because of final exams in December

Guatemala People! Please hang around after the meeting to meet and continue discussions regarding our trip in January The deposit is $250 Fay Parpart has decided to accompany us for the 3 rd year in a row as our faculty resource
