SoCal GPUG User Group Meeting – August 2014

Dynamics.set Known as the launch file Located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GPyyyy Defines all components that are loaded when Dynamics GP starts including: The number of applications loaded (Dynamics GP and all 3 rd party ISV products) The Product ID and Name for Dynamics GP and all 3 rd party ISV products The name and location of all application dictionaries The name and location of the modified forms dictionary The name and location of the modified reports dictionary

1: Number of applications loaded 2: Product ID’s and Product Names 3: Location of Core Dictionary 4: Location of Modified Forms Dictionary 5: Location of Modified Reports Dictionary 6: Locations of application dictionaries 1 3 4 5 2 6

Modified Dictionary Locations Options for location of modified Reports and Forms dictionary: Local drive Shared drive Hybrid (Copied from shared location to local drive at start-up) Can use either a mapped drive or a UNC for a shared location Users will need read/write access to the shared location Reports should not be modified while other users are logged on Keep a current back-up of your modified reports/forms dictionaries Create “package” files of your most sensitive modifications (Select Tools > Customize > Customization Maintenance from Dynamics GP main menu)

Dex.ini Known as the preferences file Located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\Gpyyyy\Data Switches may be mandatory (added by GP and 3 rd party ISV) Switches may be optional and can be added/changed by the user Some switches should be modified as part of a “Best Practice” installation: Report Dictionary Path Form Dictionary Path OLE Path

Report/Form Dictionary Paths This switch tells dexterity where modified reports and forms should default to. The default Report Dictionary Path should be modified to match the location of the modified Reports and Forms dictionaries as specified in the Dynamics.set file If using a shared location, you may use either a mapped drive or a UNC.

OLE Path This switch is used to define the location where OLE object attached to Dynamics GP record notes are stored. This switch may used a mapped drive or a UNC. If using a UNC and you have multiple companies, you must setup the directory structure manually for the UNC to work. Note: you must use the five character SQL company database name for your directories. H:\OLEAttachments\Comp1 H:\OLEAttachments\Comp2 H:\OLEAttachments\Comp3 Beginning with GP2013, we now have the document attach feature that can be used in place of OLE attachments in many instances. There is a new utility available that can help you migrate existing OLE objects to the new GP2013 document attach feature.

SmartlistEnhancedExcelExport Set this switch to TRUE to enable a faster method to export SmartList data to EXCEL (SmartlistEnhancedExcelExport=TRUE) Applies to GP9 and above. Less of a performance boost with GP2013 This switch does NOT speed-up SmartList querying your data, only the Excel export process Leading zeros on amount fields are stripped Foreign currency symbols are not exported correctly Test this switch in your environment to determine compatibility A similar switch can be turned on which works on Navigation Lists: ListsFastExcelExport=TRUE

UseCOMForExcelExport Set this switch to TRUE to import Excel budgets with calculated fields for GP2013 only (UseCOMForExcelExport=TRUE) GP2013 switched from Inter-Object Communication (COM) to Open XML (OOXML) to communicate with Office applications Reason the switch was made – performance (i.e. SmartList export to Excel)

ShowAdvancedMacroMenu Set this switch to TRUE to add an additional menu under Tools > Macro (ShowAdvancedMacroMenu = TRUE) Proceed directly to the line of a macro failure Pause a macro after a specific line has executed Start macro execution at a specific line Speed up macro execution (up to twice as fast) by selecting the option: “No User Interface Flash”

ShowAdvancedMacroMenu

Miscellaneous Switches ExportOneLineBody=TRUE SuppressChangeDateDialog=TRUE AutoInstallChunks=TRUE EnableServerDropDown=FALSE ExplorerFormatCurrency=FALSE NoPrintDialogs=TRUE EnableWCRibbons=FALSE

Switches for MS Support Set the following three switches to TRUE to enable the DEX.SQL log file usually requested by support SQLLogSQLStmt=TRUE SQLLogODBCMessages=TRUE Set these switches back to FALSE when done with your support session Set the following switch to TRUE to turn on the Dexterity script debugging features ScriptDebugger=TRUE This switch adds a “Debug” option to the Dynamics GP main menu which allows for logging of Dexterity scripts. Set this switch back to FALSE when done with your support session
