January 2016 A visit to an dog shelter where the knowledge gained from Polish meeting was implemented TOPICS: - Students to get familiar with the animals - Implementation of the discussions we had at school about: - Animal Husbandry and Welfare - Keep children safe and see stress in animals - Animal Handling

January 2016 Students to get familiar with the animals: During the visit, students had the chance to get familiar with the dogs (there was not any other contact, just eye contact). Dogs were in cages or behind fences in a safe distance from children. Due to the disabilities of our children, staff had to be very careful protecting them from close contact.

- Implementation of the discussions we had at school about: Animal Husbandry and Welfare Talked again about Animal Ethics and the Five Freedoms: - From hunger and thirst - From pain, injury, disease - From fear and stress - From discomfort - To exhibit natural behaviour and examined if those Ethics were implemented in the shelter (THEY DID) except the fifth, as animals in the cages are of limited natural behaviour

January 2016 Implementation of the discussions we had at school about: Keep children safe and see stress in animals Students were safe because they were in a distance from dogs and the dogs were behind fences.

January 2016 Implementation of the discussions we had at school about: Animal Handling It was not possible for the students as the dogs were not trained to behave properly. We just asked the owner to show us how to handle a dog.
