SART & CART Mission Statement “ A unifying network that supports preparedness, prevention, response and recovery for emergencies affecting animals”

The Birth of PA SART Established in 2005 PA SART project based on NC SART Concept adopted to address animal related disaster response needs Created through a private – public partnership to serve as a unifying network of organizations, businesses, federal and state government agencies CARTs established to fulfill needs of local response

SART Development Non – profit organization Serves as a networking agency and allows privately raised donations to help support the organization Funding through Federal government/Homeland Security Based on principles of Incident Command System Website: www.pasart.us

Goals of PA SART To facilitate a rapid, coordinated, local, and effective response to large scale emergencies affecting animals To decrease the health and safety threat to humans and animals To minimize the economic impact of emergencies affecting animals To prevent or decrease the spread of disease during emergencies affecting animals

County Animal Response Team Most critical aspect of SART Volunteers who are trained to respond at a local level Under jurisdiction of County EMA Follows Federal Incident Command System Activated by county EOC or by state

Types of Volunteers 1.Service – provides direct service in the operation of a CART 2. Resource – allows the CART the use of their equipment or property for either training or during an actual emergency
