17 Lennie Chapter 1 The first man stopped in the clearing, and the follower nearly ran over him. - Dumb / Clumsy Stupid Snorting in to the water like a horse. - Greedy / Thirsty / Self Obsessed? "Lennie, Lennie for god sake don’t drink so much." - Demanding and father like figure. "George, where are we going George" - Forgetful and repetitive "I tried not to forget, honest to god" - Sorry for what he has done but is childish and babyish in the way he talks. "Aint nothing in my pocket" - Pretending to lie but to childish to understand how obvious. "Aint we gonna have no supper?" - Childish as this is his only concern rather than concern for shelter or work etc. "I'd pinch their heads a little and then they were dead" - Shows just how strong and poweful he is but how little he knows about it. "They were so little" - Surprised at the effects that his actions could have on creatures.

18 Death Lennie "I'd pinch their heads a little and then they were dead" - Shows just how strong and poweful he is but how little he knows about it. "They were so little" - Surprised at the effects that his actions could have on creatures.

19 George "Lennie, Lennie for god sake don’t drink so much." - Demanding and father like figure. "Jesus Christ, you’re a crazy bastard". - Rude and offensive but Lennie does not seem to care. "Think I'd let you carry your own work card?" - Bossy but also trying to protect and secure Lennie. "Give it here" - Demanding "Good boy" - Patronising "I could get along so easy and so nice, if I didn’t have you on my tail" - Makes the reader feel sorry for George because he is under no obligation to look after Lennie. "I like it here" - Shows how he is happy emersed in nature and he can be calm and resting without other people. "Alright, gimme that mouse" - Shows us how well he knows Lennie and how it is clear that he knows when e is lying. "You gonna give me that mouse, or do I have to sock you" - Slightly violent and threatening to Lennie who may not completely understand. "Blubbering like a baby, Jesus Christ" - Very little sympathy for Lennie, George does not fully understand Lennie and his problems. Shows George's level of frustration and annoyance.
