PREPARE THE TESTING ENVIRONMENT Prepare Testing Environment pgs. 28 Prepare rooms Sufficiently separate students Hang a “Testing Do Not Disturb” sign on the door All bulletin boards and instructional displays that might be a source of direct answers should be covered Clocks (either analog or digital) in the testing room All desks or computers used for testing must be cleared of books and other materials not required for the test. STAAR A, STAAR L, or SOA: –Make every effort to prevent students from seeing one another’s monitor –Ensure that there is one pair of headphones per student for online administrations Online Test Administrator Training May 20164

START ONLINE TEST Start Online Test Student will launch the STAAR Online Testing Platform secure browser Log in using the username, password, and Session ID provided in the student test ticket Test Administrators will guide students through beginning the test Online Test Administrator Training May 20166

DIRECTIONS STAAR A, STAAR L & SOA Directions must be read aloud word for word. The “SAY” directions are in bold. The words in italics are information meant for you and should not be read aloud to students. Grade 3 Math & Reading pages 73-78 (pages Monitor Online tests pg. 33- 38 ) Grade 4 Math & Reading pages 73-78 (pages Monitor Online tests pgs. 33- 38) Grade 5 Math & Reading pages 73-78 (pages Monitor Online tests pgs. 33- 38) –Directions regarding moving through the test and accessing the tools have been deleted from the manual and condensed in the online system ALL students taking STAAR A, STAAR L, or SOA should have accessed the tutorials and are familiar with the online system prior to testing ALL students taking STAAR A, STAAR L, or SOA should have accessed the tutorials and are familiar with the online system prior to testing Online Test Administrator Training May 20167 Students still have a four hour time limit unless they have “Extra Time” as an accommodation.

CAN THE TEST ADMINISTRATOR SET UP THE STUDENT’S ONLINE SETTINGS OR CAN A “REMINDER CARD” WITH THE STUDENT’S PREFERENCES BE PROVIDED TO EACH STUDENT? This question is in regards to the settings in the Accessibility Panel, specifically the text-to-speech speed and volume, the zoom size, and the color and contrast options The Test Administrator may NOT set up the student’s accommodation preferences nor can the Test Administrator require a student to use the preferences determined during the tutorials However, a Test Administrator may provide the student with a “reminder card” that indicates the settings the student prefers as determined during the tutorial session. The student must be allowed to determine whether he or she uses these settings when taking STAAR A Online Test Administrator Training May 201610

Online Test Administrator Training May 2016 11 PREFERENCE SHEET Students may need assistance when setting up their preferences The test administrator can re-read any of the “say” directions to assist the students with setting up their tools The directions will instruct the Test Administrator to assist any students having difficulty after each preference is reviewed

CAN THE TEST ADMINISTRATOR ASSIST STUDENTS HAVING DIFFICULTY NAVIGATING THROUGH STAAR A? At any point during the test session, the Test Administrator may use the SAY directions or paraphrase directions from the Test Administrator manual to assist students if they have trouble navigating through the assessment or need reminders of how to turn the tools and accessibility features on and off Test Administrator may read aloud the information presented to the student in the Help tool Online Test Administrator Training May 201612

SUBMIT ONLINE TEST Online Test Administrator Training May 201625 Test administrators should remind students that they should not click the Submit and End Test button until they have finished the test. Once a test is submitted, it cannot be restarted by the test administrator Submit the Test Once a student has submitted a test, the student will no longer be active in the test session and cannot access the test with his or her student test ticket o The following steps submit the test and end the session for a student: 1.On the Review/End page of the test, click End Test. 2.Check the “I understand I cannot return to the test” box. 3.Select the Submit and End Test button Collect the student authorization form (return to the CTC) Collect all scratch paper (return to the CTC)
