ABOUT XPRIZE CORPORATE PARTNERS INCLUDE: XPRIZE drives innovation and inspires the belief that we can create a better future. Our prizes target Grand Challenges and/or market failures and then create highly leveraged competitions to incentivize radical breakthroughs in those areas. Our Prizes stimulate research and investment development that is worth far more than the prize purse itself. 3
4
4 AN INNOVATION MODEL WITH A PROUD HISTORY One of the best known incentive prizes is the Orteig Prize, a $25,000 purse offered by hotel magnate Raymond Orteig to the first person to fly non-stop between New York and Paris. In 1927, with the whole world watching, Charles Lindbergh won the prize and ushered in a new era of flight. 4

5 What began with $2.5M IN SEED MONEY AND A $10M PRIZE PURSE, generated $100M IN RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT IN 1996, XPRIZE REINTRODUCED PRIZE COMPETITION $10 MILLION 5

Future Space Prizes 27
28
Road Mapping Broadly speaking, the road mapping process will consist of the following key steps: 1. Identification of potential futures states of the space industry 2. Selection of desired states 3. “Back-casting” from those desired states to the present day 4. Identification of key technical challenges 5. Down-selection of prize-able technical challenges 6. Outlining of multiple prize concepts 28
