Croatia and the EU Croatia _______ for EU membership in 2003 and has been ________ from 2005 until 2011. The 9 December ________ of the Treaty of Croatia's Accession to the European Union and the positive outcome of the ________ on Croatia's accession have enabled the process of ratification of the Treaty by the EU _______ states. Solution (1): Croatia and the EU Croatia applied for EU membership in 2003 and has been negotiating from 2005 until 2011. The 9 December signing of the Treaty of Croatia's Accession to the European Union and the positive outcome of the referendum on Croatia's accession have enabled the process of ratification of the Treaty by the EU member states. Once the Treaty had been ratified by all member states, Croatia's membership in the Union was formalised on 1 July 2013.

Solution (2): Bosnia and Herzegovina and the EU Bosnia and Herzegovina is an acceding country. It applied for EU membership on 16 February 2016.
