Planting Need full sun, 6 hours per day Soil that is deep, 3 feet Good drainage Soil needs to be well cultivated, roots will not penetrate tough soil The hole should be twice as wide as the root, but only as deep

Planting Cut any roots that are broken or kinked If your tree was in a pot before planting, gently spread the roots out Refill hole with excavated soil Once planted the upper most root should lie just below the soil line

Irrigation All new trees should be watered thoroughly to settle soil Fruit tree watering rings work very well

Irrigation The ground within 3 feet of the trunk should be kept free of weeds, grass or other plants that will compete for nutrients and water Mulch or wood chips help with this First year trees do not need much more water until it warms up

Pollination Strawberries, raspberries, peaches, cherries, grapes are self pollinating Apples, pears, plums, apricots are not Blueberry plants are self pollinating but cross pollination makes larger fruit Trees within 100 feet count as pollinators
