Where does the word “Forensic” come from? Forensic means “before the forum” Ancient Roman physicians had to present evidence from the stabbing of Julius Caesar as to which senator killed him of the 37 stab wounds.

Forensics Popularized by…? Sherlock Holmes 1880’s Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a trained physician, wrote Sherlock Holmes detective stories. Based upon Chemistry & Logic

Development of Crime Labs took off in 1970’s….Why? The Civil Rights laws of the 1960’s voided “confessions” and the need for forensics arose. 4 th Amendment (Search & Seizure) 5 th Amendment (Rights of Persons) –Miranda Rights –DNA Profiling also lead to increase in Forensic Laboratories and the significance of Forensic Evidence.
