National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality & Tourism establish The School of International officially beginning Fall 2012. Despite currently is still under preparatory development, 4 separated courses had already been conducted. Two new international programs were introduced in Fall 2010, the Bachelor’s Program in Tourism Management and Bachelor’s Program in Chinese Culinary Arts. In addition, the school will also include another two existing departments of foreign language: the Department of Applied English and the Department of Applied Japanese. All four courses are 4 years degree, with 1-year industrial internship. The international programs are taught entirely in English. International School of NKUHT

The Bachelor’s Program in Chinese Culinary Arts (also known as International Culinary Arts Program, ICAP) is a 4 year Bachelor’s Degree program, equivalent to the British ‘3+1’ program education system. The program is conducted in English, covering the professional subjects, elective subjects and the general subjects. Multi-stream culinary courses are also included within this program, featuring Western Culinary Arts, Chinese Culinary Arts, Chinese Dimsum, Bakery, Mixology etc. Each year, the program integrated the participations of international teachers to teach certain professional courses within the field of Hospitality & Tourism. As for Fall 2011, we recruited Chef Dereke Bruce from New Zealand and Professor Michelle McCarthy to teach Western Culinary Arts and Introduction to Hospitality & Tourism respectively. Full English Tutorial Program’s Specialty Mixology tutorial introducing varies of spirits, explaining in English. Special guest tutor from Ireland presenting the country’s food and culture.

Interactive Kitchen Classes Program’s Specialty Culinary practical classes are conducted in small classes so as to increase interaction between instructor and student.

Field Trips Program’s Specialty The program provides funded field trips to various industries within the field, for the purpose of widening student’s knowledge.

Access to various facilities Program’s Specialty The students of the program have access to various facilities available in the school, including the professional Chinese & Western kitchens, Bakery kitchen, and stimulator restaurant.

Events Hosting Program’s Specialty Theoretical and practical skills come together in the organization and implementation of events, and also help in developing leadership skills and effective teamwork.

With the specifications offered by the program, it is likely to witness the students excel in the field of Hospitality and Tourism in both domestic and international regions. The program is well designed to equip students with both Front of House (FOH) and Back of House (BOH) knowledge while integrating skills of management, fitting the students with wide variety of working station in foodservices industry. Students are trained to suit with the latest trend within the industry through education in English, without having the problems encountered during translation. Future of ICAP

The Ministry of Education (MOE) calls for a minimum 6 years Secondary School as a qualification to apply for Higher Education in Taiwan. Once you are qualified, you can choose your status of resident in Taiwan, which is to registered as Foreign Students or as Chinese Students. There is no limitation of ethnics for Foreign Students, but for Chinese Students, you need the proof of at least 1 of your parents is Chinese, while your education qualification must be recognized by MOE Taiwan. As for those who do not fulfill above qualification, you can choose to attend the Preparatory Programs for Overseas Chinese Students offered by National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). Upon graduates, you will dispatch to a wide selection of higher education institutes and the offered courses respectively. Entry Requirement

A wide range of scholarships are available for the application of international students. This includes a generous amount of NTD 25’000 per month from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Academic rewards of NTD 10’000 per semester from the Ministry of Education, Academic rewards of NTD 6’000 per semester from our university and many more. Besides, NKUHT also offers partial / full tutorial waives in exchange for community services. Part time job is also available through application with different departments within the school, with a minimum pay of NT 98 per hour. Financial loans also available from certain units. All international students are treated with dormitory fee waived and practicum fee halved. Scholarship & Financial Aids
