10 What is There to See and Do? The Uffizi The gallery's wonderful collection is arranged to illustrate the evolving story of Florentine art. Some of the most famous pieces include Botticelli's Birth of Venus and Michelangelo's Holy Family.

11 What is There to See and Do? Galleria dell’ Accademia The Accademia di Belle Arti was Europe's first school of drawing. The Academy Gallery houses works of Italian sculptors like Michelangelo (main gallery), including the original David.

12 What is There to See and Do? The Duomo The remarkable Duomo, of Santa Maria del Fiore, with its pink, white and green marble façade and characteristic dome, which took almost two centuries to build dominates the city's skyline.

Grotta del Vento Situated in the centre of the Apuan Alps' Natural Park, this is one of the most complete European caves, presenting an extraordinary variety of phenomena, from shining stalactites and stalagmites to polychrome flowstone, alabaster draperies, crystal- brimmed lakes, underground water-courses and bizarre forms of erosion.

16 What is There to See and Do? Cookery Lesson We can arrange a cookery lesson for a group to see an Italian recipe being prepared, which will then be eaten later.

Guided sightseeing tour Florence on foot will offer the opportunity to see all its main attractions including the Piazza della Signoria, the Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio. An experienced guide will give information on the history of the city and will be able to answer any questions you have on the city.

It is imperative that you advise students and parents on whether visas will be required. If you have any doubts, please contact the relevant embassy to check visa requirements, especially for non-British nationals. This could equally be relevant for British nationals dependent on the destination. 22 Travel Tips European Health Insurance Cards (EHIC) All NST tours are covered by travel insurance, but in addition all travellers should carry a European Health Insurance card. The new EHIC replaced the old E111 form in September 2005. Eligible group members will need to have the EHIC to benefit from the reciprocal health arrangements that have been established within the European Union and Switzerland. If required, card holders can receive medical treatment free of charge whilst on their visit, avoiding the need to claim back money from insurers. Children/wards are covered by a parent’s/guardian’s card. The card is valid for up to 5 years and there is no charge. Forms are available from Post Offices or on-line from www.dh.gov.uk/travellers.
