Access and management of video and Meta asset Emanuele Porfiri Etere
2
Purpose of this presentation There are different paths to create a valuable archive in a TV Some of them are understimated
3
Mam & archive Post production Production Video library News library Digital assets Transmission Archive
4
TX archive TV asset has a code (House Code) Archive follows transmission codes Transmission codes are often divided into Segments!!! This is the status of the art in archive
5
Postpro archives Normally few metadata is archived Sometimes the filename only There is a simple spreadsheet file or an Access database
6
Videotape library It’s tape centered It archives Tapes and not videos. This is normally the most advanced archive in the system
7
Production archive Normally it is part of the production system management. It’s another database centered on Production more than final product.
8
News archive Newsroom has it’s own archive Every journalist or group of journalists has it’s own subset of archive
9
Why so different Mainly it’s an historical reason IT system jumps in broadcasting to solve single areas problems not to organize the Tv.
10
How to use them How much this content is valuable How many times the archive content has been reused. How many times it has been searched
11
Hard approach Create a new archive system Create a new MAM database Convert all the existing files following the new rules Convert all the metadata in the new format. Force the users to use it!!! Use the new MAM interface to perform all the operations
12
Soft approach Link the existing archive Create a common index Use them as it is Update as ‘user’ request
13
Soft approach basics Use existing systems until you need to change them Create a standard interface on the existing system Merge them into the new asset management Now you have a single interface to search Now you can add metadata and links to the simple xls file
14
Archive interfaces Different views
15
VACP –This is the basic of the interface. –It’s as old as DOS –It gives you codes and descriptions only –Use a 422 or Ip connection –Common in every transmission archives.
16
MOS Standard on news environment Gives an extensible set of metadata, Uses an Ip connection Supports Updates
17
API-Dbview This is the interface for the extreme case Quite every database allows to create a view or a virtual table with the required info This view can be ‘exposed’ for the connection
18
TXT-CSV Those are also simple interfaces. The mam system can read them and update the archive as they are updated
19
connection New MAM system Vacp MOS API Oracle Access Btrieve News arch News lib ArchiveAutomation TXT TXT files XLS files CSV files
20
Federated search A single search on all the metadata A single interface to display the common metadata. New and based on new technologies Extensible set of metadata
21
Common database Use SMPTE dictionary Convert in the interface data in smpte data Unique data catalog.
22
Import process MultiFormat conversion Input Data Delta Analysis Approval Assets
