2 Wales, Chongqing Relationship History: Following a visit from Chinese Premier in 2000 Wales and Chongqing were identified as regions that would benefit from collaboration 2000 British Consulate opened in Chongqing First MOU between Wales and Chongqing signed in 2006 March 2008 a formal Co-operation Agreement was signed between Wales and Chongqing. Sectors that have established links include trade, technology, health, agriculture, energy and education MOU for HEI`s and FEI`s Education signed in 2010

3 Educational Collaboration British Council, Wales Has underpinned and supported educational collaboration between the Chongqing region and Wales DCELLS Has supported all links and formalised agreements Higher Education Wales International Consortium (WIC) Individual institutional agreements Schools Head teachers, staff and learner involvement Chinese (Mandarin) teacher posts in Wales http://www.britishcouncil.org/general_education_overview-4.pdf

4 Further Education Links Wales and Chongqing 2010 : British Council funded 7 colleges to meet with colleges in Chongqing to begin sector engagement Funded colleges: Coleg Gwent, Coleg Llandrillo, Coleg Glan Hafren, Neath Port Talbot College, Pembrokeshire College, Swansea College, Yale College 8 Chongqing colleges (now 10) agreed to meet and begin discussions for collaboration Presentations and site tours were undertaken in China in March, and in Wales in July. Senior management, International Managers and vocational staff have participated

5 Possible Areas for Collaboration Staff exchange Student exchange Curriculum development Joint delivery Training programmes Benchmarking Distance Learning Consultancy work CPD
