First day of school On Aug. 22, Scott Helton, Dan Krause and Adam Cibulka kicked off the school year by riding buses with students to and from school.

Top schools in America Willowbrook has been named as one of the Top Schools in America by the Washington Post and as one of America’s Best High Schools by Newsweek for six consecutive years, and Addison Trail has received those honors for five consecutive years.

District 88 graduates attend schools throughout the U.S. We have more students than ever taking AP/college-level coursework, and students at both schools have been accepted to colleges and universities in 30 states throughout the U.S.

Graduation rate On June 9, we graduated more than 900 students from District 88.

Senior Awards On May 23, Addison Trail seniors were recognized during the school’s annual Senior Awards Night for their outstanding academic performance. During the event, 36 students were recognized for winning scholarships. On May 31, Willowbrook seniors were recognized during the school’s annual senior recognition assembly for their outstanding academic performance.

State and National honors Six students placed at the BPA State competition, and all six placed in the top 20 nationally. Fifteen students qualified and placed in the FCCLA State contest. Three students were recognized with ILMEA All-State honors.

State and National honors Six students placed in the SkillsUSA State competition, and two students won the Ford/AAA Troubleshooting State Contest and moved on to the National competition, where they finished in fourth place.

State and National honors District 88 had State competitors in math and speech.

District 88 Transition Program On April 17, members of the District 88 Transition Program were recognized by the Addison Public Library for their service and dedication.

Catering program Willowbrook introduced a new Culinary 3 Catering course, which formed the Brook Catering Company.

A culture of giving Giving back is part of the culture at District 88, and students support their community through many events such as the Addison Park Pride Cleanup and the Salt Creek Cleanup.

Relay For Life On March 16 and 17, students from Addison Trail and Willowbrook organized and hosted the 3rd Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of District 88 All Youth event at Willowbrook. In the end, students raised more than $50,000 for the American Cancer Society (Facial Hair February raised about $3,500, Blue Crew/Brook Olympics raised about $2,700 and Relay For Life raised about $43,800).

Hurricane Sandy Relief Dance On Dec. 1, 2012, Addison Trail hosted a dance to raise money for the Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. Junior high school students from District 88's feeder schools, as well as high school students from nearly all 14 schools in the West Suburban Conference, attended. Nearly 600 students came to the dance, and about $6,000 was raised for American Red Cross. The event won a national award from NSPRA.

District 88 Feed My Starving Children Senior Service Project On May 18, the class of 2013 from Addison Trail and Willowbrook set a new precedent in District 88 with the District 88 Feed My Starving Children Senior Service Project. The students supported Feed My Starving Children by raising $22,000 and packing more than 108,000 meals for malnourished children throughout the world. The project won a national award from NSPRA.

The true meaning of sportsmanship District 88 students and coaches show what sportsmanship is all about. They hosted a Volley for the Cure game Oct. 9, raised more than $900 for the American Cancer Society and won an award for displaying a positive attitude.

Succeeding on the field This year, District 88 had eight All-State and five Academic All-State athletes as recognized by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) in State athletic competitions. Forty- nine athletes from District 88 qualified for IHSA State competitions. In Conference competition, our district teams won four conference titles.

Athletic success Fifty-nine athletes received West Suburban All-Conference recognition, and 172 athletes received West Suburban Academic All-Conference honors.

Special Olympics Basketball goes to State The Willowbrook Special Olympics Basketball Team competed in the State competition for the second year in a row and finished in second place in their division. On March 14, Willowbrook students hosted a State sendoff for the team.

Golden Apple award Pictured are teachers who received Addison Trail's Golden Apple, along with the students who nominated them for that award. Teachers were honored with the school's Golden Apple for making a positive impact on students inside the classroom and beyond.

Outstanding Achievement Awards Mark Ailes of Addison Trail and Jamie Gourley of Willowbrook received the Outstanding Achievement Awards for 2013.

Principal of the Year Dan Krause was named as the 2013 DuPage County High School Principal of the Year by the Illinois Principals Association (IPA).
