NAHB St Josephs 30/09/022 Introduction ERHA acquired St Josephs Hospital September 2001 and transferred operational and management resposibiltiy to NAHB Initial objective was to develop plans for the commencement of public activity as soon as possible In conjunction with the scoping exercise for public work we embarked on the Development of Strategic Plan Pending the receipt of funding for public work the status quo of the hosptial remained

Short term proposals for the development of day surgery at St. Josephs- report to Board Dec 2001 2. Review of Day Case Surgery in the context of St Josephs by British Association of Day Surgery 3. Site Control and Development Plan – report to Board May 2002

NAHB St Josephs 30/09/028 Short term Plans to Action Public Work At St Josephs Commencement of Public Work at St Josephs was contingent on the receipt of funding for capital equipment and minor refurbishments Confirmation of funding in the amount of €1.133m received from Authority August 2002 to meet the short and medium term capital needs

NAHB St Josephs 30/09/0210 Public Work at St Josephs Engaged in ongoing dialogue with the consultants from Beaumont to work out a schedule of additional surgical capacity until end of year 2002 without impacting on public work at Beaumont Initial schedule has been worked up and Surgical public work is due to commence in October 2002 following the installation of essential equipment Process of identifying appropriate public patients suitable for treatment in St Joseph’s is at an advanced stage at Beaumont Hospital

Copy of Draft plan was circulated to GP’s CEO Beaumont and other interested groups Services proposed for development on the site include the following :>>>>

NAHB St Josephs 30/09/0212 Site Development Proposals Community Unit for the care of older persons including a day centre and services for Alzheimers patients. An Extended Care Unit for frail mentally ill including a day activity centre. Development of a primary care centre. Sensory and Disability Unit with facilities for rehabilitation, day care and extended care facilities. Rehabilitation Unit for mental health patients

NAHB St Josephs 30/09/0216 St Josephs Clinical Risk Management Our Board initiated a review of clinical risk in July 2002 at St Josephs A clinical risk review was carried out by IPB Throughout the review process consultation took place with staff and consultants A number of information sessions were held to discuss the findings with the staff during August and September

NAHB St Josephs 30/09/0217 Clinical Risk Clinical Risk Manager from IPB continues to work in partnership with staff to address the issues and to improve the quality of service A Theatre Utilisation group has been set up to monitor theatre activity

NAHB St Josephs 30/09/0218 Update on Service Issues Activity Surgical discharges were 3,359 up until 31/08/02 45.54% of surgical patients were in-patients 54.46% were day cases Average length of stay for surgical patients was 2.22 bed days.

NAHB St Josephs 30/09/0219 Service Issues Medical Discharges Average length of stay for medical patients is 9.64 bed days. Total number of medical and surgical inpatients and day cases to 31 st August 2002 were 4,260 which compares well with August 2001 at 4,255 54.18 % of patients are day cases. Average length of stay of medical and surgical patients combined is 5.64 bed days.

NAHB St Josephs 30/09/0220 Finance Following the acquisiton of St Josephs once off funding in the amount €634 was provided by the Authority to assist with cashflow and stock acquisition Thereafter St Jospehs has been operating on a self financing basis Commencement of public work will attract revenue funding from the Authority and private income will reduce

NAHB St Josephs 30/09/0221 Conclusion Following confirmation of funding in August 2002 of €1.133m public work will commence in October 2002 Continue to work to improve quality and standards Continue to move from inpatient activity to day activity and to keep the Board advised
