Social Security Disability Impairment Listings For Adults (Part A)

Musculoskeletal System (1.00) This category of impairments consists of disorders of the musculoskeletal system that may result from hereditary, congenital or acquired pathologic processes. Impairments may result from infectious, inflammatory, or degenerative processes, traumatic or developmental events, or neoplastic, vascular, or toxic/metabolic diseases. Examples: Major joint dysfunctions, certain disorders of the spine, amputation, extreme bone fractures that cause you to be non-ambulatory, and burns.musculoskeletal system

Special Senses and Speech (2.00) This category of impairments includes visual disorders, loss of speech, and hearing loss. For more about the evaluation process for each click here.here

Respiratory System (3.00) This category covers impairments resulting from respiratory disorders. These disorders must be established by medical evidence. Examples: chronic pulmonary insufficiency (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic restrictive ventilatory disease), asthma, cystic fibrosis, pneumoconiosis, bronchiectasis, chronic persistent infections of the lung (mycobacterial, mycotic), cor pulmonale secondary to chronic pulmonary vascular hypertension, sleep-related breathing disorders, and lung transplant.respiratory disorders

Cardiovascular System (4.00) Any disorder that affects the proper functioning of the heart or circulatory system (congenital or acquired). Examples: chronic heart failure, ischemic heart disease, recurrent arrhythmias, symptomatic congenital heart disease, heart transplant, aneurysm of aorta or major branches, chronic venous insufficiency, and peripheral arterial disease.heart or circulatory system

Digestive System (5.00) Impairments in this category include gastrointestinal hemorrhage, hepatic (liver) dysfunction, inflammatory bowel disease, short bowel syndrome, and malnutrition.this category

Genitourinary Disorders (6.00) This category covers genitourinary disorders that result in chronic kidney disease (CKD). This includes CKD with chronic hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, CKD with kidney transplant, CKD with impairment of kidney function, nephrotic syndrome, and specific complications of CKD.genitourinary disorders

Hematological Disorders (7.00) This category This category includes impairments caused by anemia and sickle cell disease. Other examples include: Chronic thrombocytopenia, hereditary telangiectasia, coagulation defects (such as hemophilia), polycythemia vera (with erthrocytosis, splenomegaly, and leukocytosis or thromboyctosis), myelofibrosis, chronic granulocytopenia, and aplastic anemias with bone marrow or stem cell transplantation.

Skin Disorders (8.00) This category This category includes such impairments as: Ichthyosis, bullous disease, chronic infections of the skin or mucous membranes, dermatitis, hidradentis suppurativa, genetic photosensitivity disorders (ex: xeroderma pigmentosum), and burns.

Endocrine Disorders (9.00) This category includes medical conditions that causes a hormonal imbalance. Examples: pituitary gland disorders, thyroid gland disorders, parathyroid gland disorders, adrenal gland disorders, diabetes mellitus and other pancreatic gland disorders (hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia).hormonal imbalance

Congenital Disorders that Affect Multiple Body Systems (10.00) This category only includes non-mosaic Down syndrome (chromosome 21 trisomy).non-mosaic Down syndrome

Neurological (11.00) This category This category includes some of the following conditions: epilepsy, central nervous system vascular accident, brain tumors, parkinsonian syndrome, cerebral palsy, spinal cord or nerve root lesions, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), anterior poliomyelitis, myasthenis gravis, muscular dystrophy, peripheral neuropathies, subacute combined cord degeneration (pernicious anemia), Huntington’s Chorea, Friedreich’s ataxia, spino-cerebellar degeneration, cerebral trauma, and syringomyelia.

Mental Disorders (12.00) Nine diagnostic categories Nine diagnostic categories including: organic mental disorders (disorientation to time and place, memory impairment, perceptual or thinking disturbances, change in personality, disturbance in mood, emotional lability and impairment in impulse control, loss of measured intellectual ability); schizophrenic, paranoid and other psychotic disorders; affective disorders (ex: depression, ADHA, hallucinations, bipolar syndrome); intellectual disability; anxiety-related disorders; somatoform disorders; personality disorders substance addiction disorders; and autistic disorders and other pervasive developmental disorders.

Malignant Neoplastic Diseases (13.00) This category includes all malignant neoplasms except certain neoplasms associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Examples: soft tissue tumors of the head and neck, skin cancer, soft tissue sarcoma, lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma, thyroid cancer, breast cancer, bone cancer, mouth cancer, central nervous system malignant neoplasms, lung cancer, mesothelioma of pleura or tumors of the mediastinum, stomach or esophagus cancer, cancer in small or large intestine, pancreatic cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, cervical, uterine, or ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.malignant neoplasms

Immune System Disorders (14.00) This category This category includes such conditions as systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic vasculitis, systemic sclerosis (scleroderma), polymyositis and dermatomyositis, undifferentiated and mixed connective tissue disease, immune deficiency disorders (sepsis, meningitis, pneumonia, septic arthritis, endocarditis, sinusitis), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, inflammatory arthritis, Sjögren’s syndrome.
