2. PROJECT SUMMARY Lung cancer rate in Daviess County is higher than the state average, in a state that is higher than national average (Tanner). Research on lung cancer is underfunded (CDC). Our approach to these startling statistics: Host a 5k run at Moreland Park Raise money for lung cancer research to help find a cure Goal: Decrease the mortality rate from lung cancer in our community Objective 1: Raise $1,500.00 for Free to Breathe Objective 2: 200 participants in the 5K

3. WHAT IS FREE TO BREATHE? “We are a partnership of lung cancer survivors, advocates, researchers, healthcare professionals and industry leaders. 5. NEEDS FOR INVOLVEMENT “Kentucky has the No.1 rate of lung cancer incidence and mortality, meaning the number of people diagnosed and the number of deaths, respectively. In 2011, lung cancer killed 3,389 Kentuckians” (Tanner, 2015) “The lung cancer five-year survival rate (17.8 percent ) is lower than many other leading cancer sites…” (American Lung Association, 2016)

9. HOW ARE WE IMPACTING THE COMMUNITY We are working together in an unprecedented collaboration to fund research to improve treatment for lung cancer patients. We are dedicated to funding innovative research and raising awareness to find a cure for lung cancer. We are educating people on lung cancer and the effects of what we can do in order to help others

Moreland park in Owensboro, Kentucky Saturday, May 7,2016 at 9:00 (Flexible) The 5K is a run/walk on the track The kids will be in the center of the park, doing various activities The drinks and food will be in different stations of the park. The tickets will be sold at the opening of the park Medical attention present
