1 RA & Wellness Coordinator Overview Information & Expectations

2 RA & Wellness Coordinator Selection Process The following stages of the selection process are mandatory: ◦ Application ◦ Meet & Greet ◦ Interviews

3 RA & Wellness Coordinator Selection Process RA & Wellness Coordinator applications will open (on the Residential Education website) on 11/1/12 and will close at noon on 1/18/13 RA & Wellness Coordinator Meet & Greet: ◦ Friday, 2/15/13 from 6-8 p.m. Wellness Coordinator Interviews: ◦ Thursday, 2/21/13 beginning at 5 p.m. RA Interviews: ◦ Saturday, 2/23/13 & Sunday, 2/24/13 beginning at 8 a.m. *Although RA interviews occur on both Saturday and Sunday, each candidate will only attend Saturday or Sunday interviews.

4 Candidate Expectations: The Framework An RA/Wellness Coordinator candidate should: Understand the requirements and expectations of the position Understand the financial benefits of the position: Room and board, meal plan, stipend Understand that accepting the position may impact financial aid packages and/or scholarships Please contact the WVU Financial Aid Office in advance with questions

5 Candidate Expectations: Academics & Leadership An RA/Wellness Coordinator candidate should: Maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA Be skilled in time management and planning Have leadership experience from high school and/or college

6 Candidate Expectations: Residence Hall Involvement An RA/Wellness Coordinator candidate should: Be a positive and contributing member of his or her residence hall Be interested and involved in residence hall activities & programs Take leadership roles within his or her residence hall (Student Conduct Board, Hall Council, leadWELL Mentor Program, etc.)

7 Candidate Expectations: Student Conduct An RA/Wellness Coordinator candidate should: ◦ Possess considerable knowledge and understanding of the Residence Hall Community Standards of Conduct ◦ Respect and adhere to the Residence Hall Community Standards of Conduct ◦ Be in good standing within the residence hall program

8 A Day In the Life… Most important student positions at WVU The Fishbowl Ambassadors for WVU & Residential Education Relationship with residents ◦ Friends vs. friendly

9 A Day In the Life… Pledging a fraternity/sorority is not permitted during your first semester of employment RAs & Wellness Coordinators are only permitted to work 10 hours per week maximum in addition to RA/Wellness Coordinator duties Curfew ◦ Weeknights: midnight ◦ Weekends: 2 a.m. Time Off ◦ One night off per week ◦ One weekend off per month ◦ Must be approved in advance

10 A Day In the Life… RAs & Wellness Coordinators are expected to do the following: Create and maintain a positive and safe environment in the building for all residents Know residents by name Plan hall activities & programs (Health & wellness specific programs for Wellness Coordinators) Maintain at least one extra duty for the hall

11 A Day In the Life… RAs & Wellness Coordinators are expected to do the following: Attend one-on-one meetings with RHC every other week Attend weekly staff meetings Attend Hall Council meetings Lead and/or present at floor meetings

12 A Day In the Life… RAs & Wellness Coordinators are expected to do the following: Address and report any maintenance issues in the building immediately Check email, voicemail and mailbox twice a day minimally Communicate issues and concerns to your fellow student staff members and RHC Maintain Residence Hall Community Standards of Conduct by addressing and documenting residence hall policy violations (primarily for RAs)
