© CITY & GUILDS KS4 – Key Stage 4 applies to learners aged 14-16 in year 9,10,and 11 KS5 – Key Stage 5 applies to learners studying Full time 16 – 19 TA – Technical Awards, applies to KS4 qualifications only 14-16 TC – Technical Certificates applies to Level 2 qualifications which meet DfE requirements for full time learners aged 16-19 TLQ – Technical Level Qualifications (Vocational) applies to Level 3 qualifications which met DfE requirements for full time learners aged 16-19 KS4 - KS5 Get to know the new lingo!!!

© CITY & GUILDS Performance measures – Are headline measures giving a clear overview of performance in progression, attainment, retention and destination. A level equivalencies or performance table compliant Performance tables - these are comparative tables that report achievement of vocational qualifications, approved by the DfE for Performance measures in secondary schools and FE colleges Synoptic assessment – is a form of assessment which requires a learner to demonstrate that they can identify an use skills, techniques, concepts, theories and knowledge across a whole vocational area Techbac® - is NOT a qualification but a wrap around offer to support the technical qualification for post 16 learners studying a full time programme Get to know the new lingo!!!

10 DESIGN PRINCIPLES KEY STAGE 4, (LEVEL 2) TECHNICAL AWARDS 120 GLH (1 x GCSE) Made up of 30 / 60 GLH units Progression: foundation for learners to progress to broad range of academic and vocational quals GRADING: P/M/D Content: Breadth and depth - must not focus on particular occupation Assessment: 40% of the qual content assessed externally. Must include synoptic assessment. DEVELOPED IN LINE WITH DFE GUIDANCE

11 DESIGN PRINCIPLES KEY STAGE 5, (L2) TECHNICAL CERTIFICATES KEY STAGE 5, (L3) TECH LEVEL QUALS 360 / 450 GLH Made up of 30 / 60 GLH units 360 / 450 / 540/ 720 / 1080 Made up of 30 / 60 / 90 GLH units Progression: Apprenticeship, employment or a Tech Level. Progression: Apprenticeship, employment, or a related higher education course. GRADING: P/M/D GRADING: P/M/D/D* Mandatory content and the contribution to the overall grade must be at least 40% of the qual. Where quals have more than one pathway, the mandatory content (%) should apply equally. Assessment: A proportion of the qual content will be assessed externally (minimum 25% for TCs and 30% Tech Level). Must also include synoptic assessment. Employer involvement: in design, recognition, delivery and or assessment. DEVELOPED IN LINE WITH DFE GUIDANCE

Update on Apprenticeship frameworks England BIS/NAS/SFA have agreed that the revised new hair and barbering qualifications will replace the current qualifications within the current SASE frameworks from the May 2015 - TBC All other requirements will remain the same, such as PLTS & ERR Wales Awaiting confirmation from Habia/Skills Active Northern Ireland Awaiting confirmation from Habia/Skills Active 35

41 NOS UPDATES We are updating our City & Guilds MHD Academy solution to reflect the changes to the National Occupational Standards (NOS) Our updated City & Guilds MHD Academy offer will cover 31 Hairdressing AND Barbering units at levels 2 and 3 New content will be added to the City & Guilds MHD Academy tutor site by the end of July 2015 We will have a total of 15 different student licence packs, which will be available for centres to bulk buy or learners to buy on an individual (direct) basis for new academic year A full sample unit of updated resources is available for evaluation now – see how our new resources will look…. www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeRro7T7G9U
