3. Kindergarten AIMSweb Concerns Phoneme Segmentation Quantity Discrimination Addressing- We strive to teach letter sound and blending to make words. Phoneme segmentation means listening to a word and separating the word into individual sounds. Teacher made games such as “hang man” with words, jump to the sounds and beginning spelling Fundations begins segmentation late in the kindergarten year. Our students understand the sequencing of numbers (missing number strength). Using Base Ten blocks, manipulatives, and indepth understanding of number value, our kindergarten teachers will continue given students experiences to fully understand the number concept.
