Take a seat in your new group and get out your class materials:  Writing Tool  English Journal  English Folder for class documents and assessments Start up: Find a place for your group to sit together. Start with a brief discussion on betrayal and how your week 4 writing is coming. You have 5 minutes to begin your writing… GO

“I can describe, in my own words, the events that happened right before the beginning of Hamlet and what is happening in Act I”  Please set up your journal for “Twitter Activity #1” …You will write a series of tweets in your journal

 140 Characters › Message should be a brief summary › Be creative with your diction, but it must be school appropriate  Hashtags › Allow people to categorize their tweets/messages › You will use these to mark themes you are seeing in the play › You can be creative with your hashtags

CLICK ME!

Each of you will be given a main character from Hamlet. Read and get to know your basic bullet points, try to become your character! Your task is to get to know the nine main characters and how they connect to each other By the end of this party, you should be able to fill in your character map with some idea of how they relate

 Our Period 8 actors will read often, but everyone will have to read at least once a week during the unit of Hamlet, whether they volunteer or get assigned a role.  Prop masters will begin to gather props for the characters starting this weekend. Characters do not have to use them, but it is encouraged.  Students will do their best to accurately portray the rhythm and words in the text.  Students will use VOICE  Students will support each other!

 Notice that Shakespeare wrote his play with lines on the margin. This helped actors refer back to one another in rehearsals.

Respond in your journal: What strikes you most about the play right now based on the twitter activity, character party, and opening scene? What is most interesting to you? Why?

Betrayal and/or Forgiveness Remember to include… An argument about the effects or outcomes of being betrayed At least two direct quotes (from the handout or from your own interviews) that are ICE’d! Details and a clear explanation New vocabulary!
