Let’s Play Jeopardy!
3
Before the TestDuring the TestTesting Potpourri 100 200 300 400
4
Seven - Nine Hours
5
How much sleep should you get the night before a test?
6
What time do you need to go to bed and wake up in order to get 7 – 9 hours of sleep? What helps you sleep better before a test? Why? Playing video games Texting your friend late into the night Playing music…….What kind? Watching TV
7
#2 Pencils
8
What should you bring with you to the test?
9
Be sure that you: Have pencils that are wood & graphite #2 pencils with an eraser - NOT mechanical! Mark the circles correctly and have only one choice for each answer (Believe it or not, students forget to erase and then they have an answer with two bubbles marked on one question!)
10
Be late!
11
What should you NOT do the morning of a test?
12
Lay your clothes out the night before Get up early and try to arrive at school 10-15 minutes before the first bell rings so that you do not feel rushed getting to class.
13
Breakfast
14
What should you not skip the morning of the test?
15
Which one of these breakfasts would not be considered a healthy breakfast? Why/why not? A Red Bull and Hot Cheetos Bacon and Eggs Peanut Butter Toast Fruit and Cereal
16
Read the Directions Carefully
17
What should you do FIRST when you are given the okay from your teacher to start your test?
18
Make sure you understand what the directions are asking you to do. How are you supposed to share your answers? Circle it, underline it, or write a complete sentence? Can more than one answer be correct? Scan the test questions so you have a general idea of what will be expected of you
19
For an essay test, underline key words that tell you how to answer such as define, compare and explain. Also underline key words that tell you what information you need to answer, such as at least three of the five characters in the story or all steps in the Scientific Method. Note: For the SBA, make sure to underline in the test booklet, not on the answer sheet.
20
The Easiest Questions
21
Which questions should you answer first? But…… Make sure to go back and answer all of the ones you skipped in that section
22
As you read the question, think of the answer you might give if you did not have any choices. If you find your answer among the choices, it is likely to be the correct response.
23
Not spending too much time on any one question Save time at the end to review your answers Use all of your time!
24
What is using your time wisely or pacing yourself during the test?
25
Watch your time and pace yourself. If you know you have 40 minutes to answer 28 questions, know that after 20 minutes you should be about half way through the questions. When you are done with the section, go back over your work and check for accuracy, review questions for which you are uncertain and make sure that all the questions have been answered. Make sure that your answers correspond correctly with your answer document!
26
For multiple choice questions, eliminate: 1. The obviously wrong answer 2. Choices that are partially correct 3. Items that relate to but do not answer the question
27
What is the Process of Elimination?
28
Think of a multiple choice game show such as “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” where the contestant discusses the choices and rationalizes why possible responses are the answer or not. What do you think the contestant is thinking? Remember that “no choice” is not an option; educated guesses are appropriate.
29
Think about how the “Lifelines” can be used: “Phone a Friend” could be going back to the text to find an answer “50-50” is making a guess after narrowing the choices down to two. Unfortunately, there is no “Polling the Audience!”
30
Stay calm and take deep breaths
31
What should you do if you start feeling nervous while taking the test?
32
All, Always, Never, None Entirely, Only Everyone Must
33
What are Absolute Words?
34
Answers with these words can be confusing and may be wrong or false. Read and answer the question very carefully when you see these words.
35
In Math, an approximate answer obtained by rounding the numbers BEFORE you add, subtract, multiply or divide.
36
What is estimation? Always ask yourself, is this answer reasonable?
37
“Of, times, multiplied by, product of, increased/decreased by a factor of…” (this type can involve both addition or subtraction and multiplication!)
38
