Why is it so important? Conflict is essential to the Plot. It is the opposition of forces which ties one incident to another and makes the plot move. Within a short story, there may be only one central struggle, or there may be one dominant struggle with many minor ones.

Most conflicts result in a “snowball effect?” Think about it: You hang out with friends instead of studying. Your grades slip and your parents are mad. You tell friends you can’t hang out as often. Your friends are mad and you feel frustrated. You take your frustration to your parents. Your parents affirm study rule, etc.. Did you know?
