9 Concision and Style In Dracula by Bram Stoker, the author uses characterization to show the central idea that whenever you go through something tough, you have to have faith that you’ll come out alright. The protagonist is trapped in the castle and can’t get out. He says, “I rushed up and down the stairs, trying every door and peering out of every window I could find.” This quote is saying that he is running around everywhere to try to get out. This relates to the central idea because it shows that he is going through something tough.

10 Concision and Style In Dracula by Bram Stoker, the author employs characterization to illustrate the central idea that faith can help us through difficulties. The protagonist is imprisoned in the castle and writes in his diary to describe his experience. He writes, “I rushed up and down the stairs, trying every door and peering out of every window I could find.” This quote demonstrates characterization through describing the panicked manner in which he searches for an escape. This quote clarifies the central idea by introducing the difficult situation the narrator finds himself in, for which he will need faith in order to overcome.
