Getting acquainted Meeting adults Bonjour, monsieur Lapin. Bon soir, mademoiselle Pauc. Bienvenue, madame.

LesTitres Adults are greeted with titles to accompany their last names. Titles may be abbreviated when the last name appears. Monsieur—M. Madame—Mme. Mademoiselle—Mlle. Docteur—Dr.

Presentations To introduce yourself, you may use the same words regardless of your audience. Je m’appelle... To ask an adult’s name, you must use a more formal phrase. Comment vous appelez-vous? these two words indicate forms of polite address

Le plaisir, c’est a moi. European countries are known for their welcoming citizens and polite behavior. When you meet someone for the first time, say “nice to meet you” or “it was my pleasure”. Bonjour, monsieur. Comment vous appelez-vous? Je m’apelle Richard Sondine. Enchante. C’est mon plaisir.

Apres... After saying hello, people usually ask how they are feeling or how things are going. Bon soir, mademoiselle. Bon soir. Comment ca va? Tres bien, merci. Et vous? Donc, assez bien.

Presentations informales To introduce yourself, you may use the same words regardless of your audience. Je m’appelle... To ask a child’s name, you may use an informal phrase. Comment t’appelles tu?

Enchante de faire la connaissance. When you meet someone for the first time (even someone your own age), say “nice to meet you”. Salut. Je m’appelle Anne. Comment t’appelles tu? Je m’appelle Daniel. Enchantee. Moi aussi.

Quel age? When we talk to people our own age (especially students), we tend to want to know how old they are. En francais, you ask someone’s age by requesting how many years they have... Years of experience, years of living, etc. Quel age as-tu? J’ai __#___ ans. ( I have # years.)
