Library mission to provide a safe and nurturing environment for students and staff where they can develop the essential skills needed to navigate the rapidly evolving information landscape of the 21st century. to help students become lifelong readers, enthusiastic learners, and competent researchers who know how to find the information they need and use it well. to provide a wide range of good quality books and other learning resources to support the curriculum needs of all pupils and teachers. organizing activities that encourage cultural and social awareness and sensitivity;

School Librarian Selecting, purchasing and processing resources Keeping resources accessible to all users Introduces texts to pupils and teachers Increases pupils’ enjoyment of reading Encourages wider reading Stimulates writing skills Encourages creative thinking Celebrates cultural diversity Work very closely with all teachers to decide on which stock should be replaced annually.

Library Expectations Be considerate and respectful No food or drink is allowed in the library Clean up your work area/take all your belongings with you Should be quiet No IPODs, MP3 players, cell phones, etc., as per school policy

School Library Collection Our collection has approximately 11,550 volumes (8550 of them fiction or non-fiction books, 3000 volumes of specialized literature. Each book has its own section and is arranged by clear shelf and bay guidance. Other formats The library also collects periodicals, newspapers, audio cassettes, videotapes, computer software, audio and digital CD- ROMs and DVDs.

Checking Materials Out Loan period is 2 weeks. Material can be renewed (you must have the item with you to do this), if necessary. If a book is lost or damaged while on loan, the replacement cost will be charged accordingly. No additional checkouts will be allowed if a student has any items overdue by more than 2 weeks.

New Books Display New books recently acquired by the library are displayed. In different sections, grouped by fiction and nonfiction.

Fiction & Nonfiction Section Arranged alphabetically by author’s last name.

Specialized literature section The specialized literature is in the field of veterinary medicine, stock-breeding and tourism.

Reference Encyclopedias Dictionaries. These books do not circulate so that they are always available for use! There are 2 sections of shelving for Reference books. Almanacs Atlases

Magazines & Newspapers Numerous magazine & newspapers subscriptions for specialized subjects. Back issues of magazines may be checked out, but not the current issues.

Printing in the Library The school librarian may print all kind of documents and articles that students ask for.

Suggestions Welcome! You can suggest a book for purchase, just tell Mrs. Penyashka. Other ideas for improvements to the library are always welcome.
