What is the IOSH Benevolent Fund? formed in 2002 (from IMSO Welfare Fund) it is not part of IOSH but is a separate registered charity available to former and existing members and IOSH employees, with 3 years standing providing financial help to those suffering extended ill health, disability, or hardship during a prolonged period of unemployment the fund is reliant on donations and investment income THE IOSH BENEVOLENT FUND IOSH Benevolent Fund

Who governs the Fund? The IOSH Benevolent Fund is governed by at least four Trustees: Nick Cornwell-Smith (Chairman, member of Council) Steve Granger (member of Council) Lynn Judge Stephen Mills Jan Chmiel (Chief Executive, ex-officio Trustee) Collectively the Trustees, at their absolute discretion, assess applications made (which are anonymised) and decide whether to support them by paying an amount from the Fund to the individual, whilst adhering to the objects of the Charity (Charity Registration number 1090484) IOSH Benevolent Fund

How are the funds raised? Through: donations from members covenants from members income from investments other donations events How is the Fund publicised? Through: articles in the Safety and Health Practitioner magazine flyers distributed at the Networks’ Conference new member welcome packs and sub reminder letters IOSH website Branch/Group meetings IOSH Benevolent Fund

How to apply to the Fund? Through: the Committee Support Officer at IOSH head office the IOSH Website the Branch/Group Executive What happens once an application has been made? the Committee Support Officer will check the eligibility of the applicant the application is anonymised and sent to Trustees Trustees discuss the application and make a decision within one month a response is sent to the applicant informing them of the decision IOSH Benevolent Fund

What kind of cases has the Fund helped? a member, diagnosed with cancer and experiencing reduced hand and wrist mobility, received financial assistance from the Fund to purchase a tablet pc and wireless printer which enabled him to write up reports more easily whilst out on site visits. a member requested a contribution towards the cost of a trailer to store and transport his daughter’s sports wheelchair. another member needed funds to pay for a training course to help him back to work after a prolonged period of ill health. Key financial points for the year ended 31 March 2015: capital donations in the region of £1,000 were received from members no grants were paid out taking into account donations, interest and an increase in the value of the COIF investment fund, the overall benevolent fund increased by over £6,000 the value of investments at the end of the financial year exceeded £39,000 IOSH Benevolent Fund
