2 Context City of Edinburgh Council Economic Development Promote the employment of ALL Edinburgh’s citizens Best way to support disabled people to achieve jobs people want.

3 Aims Ask disabled people in Edinburgh: – Do you want to work? – What do want the work to be like? – What support do you want to get and keep a job? Map services in Edinburgh that help disabled people to find and keep a “good” job Say what sort of service will support disabled people in Edinburgh to reach their employment goals.

4 What disabled people said We’d like more opportunities to work Work: – Makes you feel good – Makes new friends – ‘connection to society’ Like work that we can “manage with new health circumstances” or “fluctuating mental health” Respect, in the workplace. “I wouldn’t work here if people not nice”

5 What people said stops them getting a job Stigma- leading to discrimination Employers’ attitudes- lack of understanding Worry about loosing our benefits, especially if job doesn’t continue Don’t know how to go about getting a job Training doesn’t always link to getting a job Lack of confidence Poor employment support Fewer jobs and less choice of work.
