National Policy, Programme and Coordination  Re-activation of national committee  Advocacy to policy makers at all level on IYCF  Implementation of IYCF policy  National plan for IYCF will be developed with appropriate allocation from government’s health sector programme budget  Finalization of IYCF manual in Nepali  Sensitization workshop on IYCF with concerned authorities for integrating it into pre-service curriculum  Develop appropriate course on IYCF for all levels of health professionals

3. National Policy, Programme and Coordination  Regional level MToT in 3 remaining regions  District level training on IYCF will be started in 25 districts in 2008  Sectoral and cross-sectoral coordination will be done through IYCF committee at national level  Coordination at district level will be done through DPHO/DHO

4. Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative  Re-vitalise BFHI  Re-assessment of BFHI  Expansion in 5 more hospitals

5. Implementation of the International Code  Proper implementation of international code  Identification of focal person in nutrition section of Child Health Division for code monitoring

6. Maternity Protection  Implementation of maternity leave of 2 months and paternity leave of 2 weeks in private and unorganised sector as per govt. rule  Advocacy for maternity leave for 4 months and paternity leave for 1 month

7. Health and Nutrition  BCC and advocacy for early initiation of breastfeeding within one hr. (target to increase from 35 to 45 % in 2008)  BCC for exclusive breastfeeding for 6 mnths (target to increase from 53 to 63%)  Increase awareness on importance of nutrition for mothers during antenatal and posnatal period  Increase awareness regarding the importance on timely (after 6months) introduction and optimal complementary food

8. Information Support  Different IEC materials on IYCF will be produced in coordination with various stakeholders and disseminated through govt and non-govt. Channels  Breastfeeding week will be continued to be celebrated  IEC messages on IYCF will be integrated into other health and relevant non-health programmes

9. Community Outreach  IYCF messages will be promoted through outreach clinics and health facilities  FCHVs and mothers groups will be mobilised to improve IYCF practices  Social mobilization for creation of enabling environment for BF will be done through community groups through other stakeholders  Male involvement in IYCF will be promoted through IEC/BCC

10. Infant Feeding and HIV  Implementation of national guideline of PMTCT on HIV  In coordination with the National Aids Centre, orientation on PMTCT package will be provided at all levels including community

11. Infant Feeding during emergencies  Nutrition rehabilitation centres will be established in additional 5 hospitals  Coordinate with other agencies like UNICEF, WFP, NRCS for distribution of nutrition supplements

12. Monitoring and Evalaution  Operational research will be conducted on existing IYCF practices in 3 districts  Country assessment of IYCF to identify trends, gaps and possible solutions in some districts  Growth monitoring with counselling through health facilities  Data collected through HMIS on IYCF will be reviewed during government’s annual regional review meetings  Data on infant feeding during emergencies will be collected and analysed, appropriate interventions will be done
