1st EPAL AMALIADAS1 05/04/10 SAVE ENERGY 1ST EPA.L. AMALIADAS COMENIOUS PROJECT : Responsible citizenship

1st EPAL AMALIADAS2 05/04/10 Types of Energy Energy can be broadly divided into two categories- Renewable Energy Non Renewable Energy

1st EPAL AMALIADAS3 05/04/10 Renewable Energy Renewable energy can be generated continuously practically without decay of source. E.g.- Solar Energy Wind Energy Geothermal Energy Hydro Energy

1st EPAL AMALIADAS4 05/04/10 Non Renewable Energy Non renewable energy cannot be generated again and again, e.g. energy generated from combustion of fossil fuels, energy from coal and gas etc.

1st EPAL AMALIADAS5 05/04/10 Energy Energy can neither be generated nor it can be destroyed. It can only be converted from one form to another. For example, in a room heater, electrical energy is converted to the thermal energy. Turbine converts mechanical energy stored in steam to electrical energy.

1st EPAL AMALIADAS6 05/04/10 Why to Conserve? We use energy faster than it can be produced. Energy resources are limited. Most of the energy sources we use cannot be reused and renewed We save the country a lot of money when we save energy.

1st EPAL AMALIADAS7 05/04/10 Why to Conserve? We save our money when we save energy We save our energy when we save energy Energy saved is energy generated Save energy to reduce pollution It is our duty to conserve today for tomorrow’s use

1st EPAL AMALIADAS8 05/04/10 Limited Fuels At present consumption levels- Crude oil will last only for 40 years. Gas will last for 60 years. Coal will be finished in nearly 200 years. Ever thought of life without oil and gas?

1st EPAL AMALIADAS9 05/04/10

1st EPAL AMALIADAS10 05/04/10 Increasing Consumption Furthermore, our consumption is increasing day-by-day. This means fuels will last much earlier than expected. The only solution is …..

1st EPAL AMALIADAS11 05/04/10 Energy Conservation

1st EPAL AMALIADAS12 05/04/10 What Can We Do? We, the children can do our bit to save energy. We should not waste energy in school or at home.

1st EPAL AMALIADAS13 05/04/10 Fight the Light!

1st EPAL AMALIADAS14 05/04/10 Don't leave lights on when no one is in the room. If you are going to be out of the room for more than five minutes, turn off the light. If you know of a light that everyone forgets to turn off, make a sticker that says "Lights Out!" Where possible, use compact fluorescent light bulbs. They use less energy and last much longer.

1st EPAL AMALIADAS15 05/04/10 If there are less students in the class, we should sit together so that some fans can be switched off. (NOT IN EXAMS!)

1st EPAL AMALIADAS16 05/04/10 Don't Leave Things Turned On Turn off the TV when no one is watching it. The same goes for computers, radios and stereos. We should switch off computers before going out of class. Anything on standby is drawing small amounts of power all the time.

1st EPAL AMALIADAS17 05/04/10 It's a Matter of Degrees! In cold weather, wear warm clothing and have your thermostat set to about 20 degrees.

1st EPAL AMALIADAS18 05/04/10 Don't Heat - or Cool - the Great Outdoors! Draw curtains to keep the heat in during cold weather and out during hot weather. Find the draughts in your home and seal them up. Is there an old refrigerator sitting in the garage or someplace else at home? Old refrigerators are real energy hogs!

1st EPAL AMALIADAS19 05/04/10 In the Bathroom Wasting water wastes electricity. Why? Because the biggest use of electricity in most cities is supplying water and cleaning it up after it's been used! Dripping taps are bad, too. A tap that leaks enough water to fill a soda bottle every 30 minutes will waste about 8,300 litres of water a year. Another simple way to save water AND energy is to take shorter showers. You'll use less hot water - and water heaters account for nearly 1/4 of your home's energy use.

1st EPAL AMALIADAS20 05/04/10 In the Kitchen According to researchers who are paid to study such things, a load of dishes cleaned in a dishwasher uses 37 percent less water than washing dishes by hand! However, if you fill up one side of the sink with soapy water and the other side with rinse water - and if you don't let the tap run - you'll use half as much water as a dishwasher does. Doing the dishes this way can save enough water for a five-minute shower!

1st EPAL AMALIADAS21 05/04/10 Outside the House Use a broom instead of a hose to clean off the driveway, patio or deck - this will save hundreds of gallons of water each year. If you only have a small lawn, consider getting a manual push mower. It doesn't use any energy except your own. Pushing the mower spins the rotating wheels, which spins the cutter. Consider it good exercise! If you need to leave a security light on over night, change the incandescent bulb to a compact fluorescent. It will last months and maybe years and save you energy and money. Some compact fluorescent bulbs even come in yellow so they won't attract bugs.

1st EPAL AMALIADAS22 05/04/10 Remember to replace light bulbs with CFLs so electricity could be available for more time. You can also ask your parents for a chocolate, a bicycle, a car or some other gift after reducing your electricity bill.

1st EPAL AMALIADAS23 05/04/10 What Else can be Done? We should discuss energy conservation with our friends and tell others how can we reduce energy consumption.

1st EPAL AMALIADAS24 05/04/10 THANK YOU
