Proportional and Non- Proportional Relationships using Tables Objective: I will determine proportional and non-proportional relationships using tables MAFS.7.RP.1.2: Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities. (MP.1,2,4,5,7,8) a. Decide whether two quantities are in a proportional relationship, e.g., by testing for equivalent ratios in a table or graphing on a coordinate plane and observing whether the graph is a straight line through the origin. b. Identify the constant of proportionality (unit rate) in tables, graphs, equations, diagrams, and verbal descriptions of proportional relationships.

Do Now You have been hired by your neighbors to babysit their children on Friday night. You are paid $8 per hour. Complete the table relating your pay to the number of hours you worked Hours Worked Pay 1 2 3 4 4 ½ 5 6 6.5 Based on the table above, is pay proportional to hours worked? How do you know?

Proportional and Non-Proportional Relationships using Tables

The table below represents the amount of snowfall in 5 counties (in inches) to hours of a recent winter storm The table below represents the amount of snowfall in 5 counties (in inches) to hours of a recent winter storm. 210 612 816 2.55 714 Proportional and Non-Proportional Relationships using Tables

The table below represents the amount of snowfall in 5 counties (in inches) to hours of a recent winter storm The table below shows the relationship between cost of renting a movie to the number of days on rent. Proportional and Non-Proportional Relationships using Tables 62 93 248 31

The table below represents the amount of snowfall in 5 counties (in inches) to hours of a recent winter storm The table below shows the relationship between the amount of candy (pounds) bought and the total cost. Proportional and Non-Proportional Relationships using Tables 510 48 612 816 1020

The table below represents the amount of snowfall in 5 counties (in inches) to hours of a recent winter storm Your turn: Andy is planning to drive from New Jersey to Florida. Randy recorded the distance traveled and the total number of gallons used every time he stopped for gas. Assume miles driven is proportional to Gallons Consumed in order to complete the table. Proportional and Non-Proportional Relationships using Tables Gallons Consumed 2481012 Miles Driven 54189216

Proportional and Non-Proportional Relationships using Tables Group Practice Create a table of two quantities that are proportional to one another. Then, create a “story problem” that would generate the table.
