DISTRICT MISSION Each student is highly educated, Prepared for leadership and service, And empowered for success as a Citizen in a global community.

HISTORY Columbus City Schools began the 2002- 03 school year with the first ever pre- opening Parent Convocation at Veteran’s Memorial auditorium. The Parent Convocation was a direct result of the vision Superintendent, Dr. Gene T. Harris, had regarding engaging parents in the academic success of their children.

GOAL 6 District Goal 6: (Parent/Community Involvement) The district will engage parents and community organizations to support student success.

ULTIMATE GOAL The ultimate goal is to impact student achievement by communicating with parents and providing them with the tools and skills students need in order to be academically successful.

No Child Left Behind and Parent/Family Engagement As defined in NCLB, parental involvement is the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities that include ensuring: Parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning. Parents are encouraged to actively be involved in their child’s education at school and home. Parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in the decision making and participate on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child.
