2. ALL ABOUT ME! Originally from Michigan Graduated from the University of Michigan Taught for 6 years in Arizona Fourth year at Rippon Middle School I also teach Science I coach cheerleading I’m excited about the school year!

4. MY MATH GOALS To create a community of learners Engage students in the process of learning math Encourage students to justify their understanding Help educate tomorrow's citizens about the application of mathematics to everyday life. Have Fun!

5. STUDENT EXPECTATIONS Work independently and in small groups Solve problems and explore “why” Ask questions Participate in class Demonstrate their understanding through discussions, writing, homework, projects and tests

6. MATERIALS NEEDED FOR CLASS Items each student needs for class: Composition Book Pencils Folder Lined Paper Glue Sticks If you would like to donate items to the class, we always need: Kleenex Hand sanitizer Lined paper Pencils

7. CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES AND HOMEWORK Bell Work is completed everyday when the students enter the classroom. It reviews concepts that we have covered. The students will be required to take notes often. The students will be participating in a variety of activities that will challenge them to use their problem solving skills. The students will work in small groups to complete various activities. Weekly Reviews will be given as homework to review current and past concepts.

8. PARENT PORTAL AND SCHOOL FUSION Grades are updated weekly. Sometimes assignments are added into the grade book before the students have completed the assignment. Therefore they will not have a grade for it. Once the assignment has been completed, the grade will be added to the system. If the assignment has been graded and the student did not turn it in, you will see an “NHI” for the grade. School Fusion is a great way to keep track of what is occurring in the classroom and when certain assignments are due. It will also indicate when there is a test or quiz coming up in class.

9. MATH 8 GRADING POLICY The student’s grades will be weighted based on the following categories listed below. Assessments – 40% Classwork - 30% Projects – 10% Quarterly Benchmark Test – 10% Weekly Reviews/Homework – 10% Grading Scale: 100% - 90% = A 89% - 80% = B 79% - 70% = C 69% - 60% = D 59% and below = F

Grade 5 and Grade 8 teachers will find this web site created by Jefferson Labs a wonderful resource to prepare students for the Standard of Learning tests. Subjects: Science, Math and Technology. Jefferson Lab Math On-Line Test: Grade 8 TAAS/Harcourt. Consists of 60 questions. (Texas Department of Education) Math On-Line Test AAA Math Eighth Grade - Hundreds of pages of Basic Math Skills. Interactive Practice on every page. An Explanation of the math topic on each page. Several Challenge Games on every page. Math Problems are randomly created.
