New Hire Orientation7 Payroll Information These employees get paid monthly: Administrators and 12 month support staff – July through June Teachers, instructional assistants, and support staff – August through July These employees get paid bi-weekly: Maintenance, custodians, cafeteria workers, and bus drivers Bi-weekly payroll goes in the bank every other Friday

New Hire Orientation10 Staff Leaves & Absences Employees earn 1.25 sick days per month worked –190 day employees earn 12 sick days per year –200 day employees earn 12.5 sick days per year –210 day employees earn 13 sick days per year –260 day employees earn 15 sick days per year Sick leave days may be used for special circumstances (3 days of total sick days earned) Employees transferring from other South Carolina state agencies can have their sick leave transferred to RHS –Please contact previous HR / Personnel department on how to have those days sent to RHS Sick Leave Policy

New Hire Orientation11 Staff Leaves & Absences Provides employee with 60 days of JOB PROTECTED leave for a serious medical health condition Must have been with RHSD for 1 year and have worked 1250 hours for RHSD within that year Can be used for a sick spouse, dependent, parent, or if you have legal guardianship duties Sick leave / vacation will be used concurrently with leave Not limited to pregnancies Provides leave for adoptions Employees may also take leave intermittently Physician’s certification must accompany application Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

New Hire Orientation12 Vacation Leave Only 260 day employees are eligible to earn vacation.83 days are earned at the end of each month – 10 days per year At retirement or resignation, an employee will be paid up to 10 days of accrued vacation There is no maximum accumulation of vacation Vacation days are not transferable from state agency to state agency

Employee is electing over 3 x’s annual salary with a maximum benefit of $500,000 Spouse coverage greater than $20,000 (maximum 50% of employee’s optional life coverage or $100,000, whichever is less) Effective first of the month following approval

New Hire Orientation38 Retirement Overview Mandatory Enrollment –Bus Drivers and Bus Aides are exempt from enrolling Two systems to choose from –South Carolina Retirement Systems (SCRS) –State Optional Retirement Program (State ORP) 4 vendors Two classes of Employee –CLASS 2 Members - Date of membership prior to July 1, 2012 –CLASS 3 Members - Date of membership after June 30, 2012

New Hire Orientation39 Retirement SCRS Defined Benefit Plan –Guaranteed pension when retire –Employee contributes 8.16% –Employer contributes 16.39% –Retirement not based on amount in account Class 2 - Based on years of service, average final compensation 12 highest quarters Class 3 - Based on years of service, Rule of 90 applies (20) highest consecutive quarters –Geared toward employee who will retire from South Carolina, not necessarily from Rock Hill Schools –Cannot receive rollover money from another retirement plan

New Hire Orientation40 Retirement SCRS Full Retirement –Class 2 65 years of age with at least 5 years of earned service; or 28 years or more of service credit, at least 5 years of which must be earned service credit –Class 3 65 years of age with at least 8 years of earned service credit; or Meets Rule of 90 requirement with at least 8 years of earned service credit (age and service credit must add up to at least 90)

New Hire Orientation41 Retirement SCRS Early Retirement –60 years of age or older with at least 5 years of earned service credit 5 percent reduced benefit for each year of age less than 65 Fully Vested – Class 2 (5 years) Class 3 (8 years) –Eligible to retire at age 60 –Eligible to apply for disability retirement Leave Employment –Only receive employee contributions plus interest regardless of time with state agency –Will not receive employer contributions Can not switch to State ORP during employment –Can switch if separation of employment State agency transfers

New Hire Orientation44 Retirement Group Life Insurance Employees enrolled for at least one year in the SCRS or State ORP program have an incidental death insurance policy of 1 x annual salary at NO cost to the employee Rock Hill Schools pays premium
