Why is this issue important to Stanford? “The Sexual Victimization of College Women,” Dept. of Justice (Dec. 2000) “College campuses are not ivory towers but, instead, have become hot spots for criminal activity” Women at college at greater risk for sexual assault 35 incidents of rape for every 1,000 women per academic year “Silent epidemic”

“1 in 4” National College Women Sexual Victimization (NCWSV) study 2.8% experienced completed/attempted rape incident However, figures measure victimization for just under 7 months So, nearly 5% victimized every year Over five-year college career percentage of women victimized between 20-25%

At Stanford… From 2002 through 2004: Sex offenses reported to police: 13 incidents of forcible rape Reported to University counselors: 18 forcible offenses But according to national study, fewer than 5% of incidents reported to law enforcement officials
