4 Anne Frank - The Whole Story Pre-Reading

5 Reading The Broadway Play Students choose a star out of a bag. These stars symbolize the stars worn by the Jews under Hitler’s regime. The stars designate the student’s role in the reading of the play for that day: characters, narrator, or audience. Audience members will be called on to ask or answer questions. Students are directed to take notes on a graphic organizer during the reading of the play. Each day new literary terms and insights into the plot, theme, and characters will be discussed and reviewed.

6 Activities Students role-play in groups as characters in hiding and must remain completely still in an enclosed space for 2 minutes. Students work in groups to create unique and memorable drawings, words, or phrases for remembering new vocabulary words from the play and share their ideas with the class. Students use a character web graphic organizer to analyze characters in the play. They will use these later to create a Bio Poem. Classes will compete in a food drive for the homeless.

7 Formal Evaluations A persuasive essay Quizzes on vocabulary and comprehension at the end of each Act of the play Each student will write a Bio Poem and present it to the class An in-class essay on major themes in the play
